史念海先生在《发挥中国历史地理学有用于世的作用》一文中曾谈到：“在中国历史地理学的研治中,历史军事地理的研治成果显然较其他方面为稀少,几乎和研治历史动物地理相仿佛。”毫无疑问这是不可接受和难以理解的。也说明了对于历史军事地理方面的研究工作还“有待于继续不断的努力”。河内地区位列古“三河”之一,是古代经济发达的区域,物产丰富,地形险要,处于交通枢纽位置,统治者十分看重河内地区所拥有的锁匙、通道、基地三重战略价值。本论文希望结合历史自然地理和历史人文地理的研究成果复原河内地区的行政建制、地貌、战略物资的分布、军事交通线等方面的状况,探讨这些因素对于军事活动的影响。此研究有助于我们进一步加深对先秦秦汉时代一系列军事、政治事件的认识,从而以史为、鉴科学发展对我们今天的社会主义政治、经济、文化以及国防建设提供参考和帮助。早在春秋战国时代,我国的军事家们已十分重视军事行动与地形、天候地理环境之间的关系。历史军事地理在研究客体——地理空间上,与现代军事地理是相同的,但存在着时间上的古今差异,即是凭借历史文献资料和实地考察等策略,研究人类社会历史时期的军事活动赖以展现的地理环境。过去有关古代军事枢纽地点的论述,多以各要地的相邻“空间”为出发点和基本线索来进行陈述、研讨的,就整体状况来看,存在的主要不足是研究不够系统,通常仅限于对分散而互不联系的一些个别对象进行时间和空间范围较为狭窄地探讨,多属于静态的个案考察,缺乏纵向联系的、宏观的动态研究。这样不利于浅析浅析战略枢纽在各历史阶段内的发展演变规律和社会背景、时代特点,难以全面、深入地总结其形成、衰落和转移的一些基本理由。同时在冷兵器战争时代,自然地理环境诸因素对战争的限定和影响,比之于现代战争,尤显密切而重大。换言之,古代战争的“一举一动”都不能超越地形要素的限制和地理环境的影响。所以从军事战略高度对古代的地理环境进行研究,就更具有宏观历史上的认识意 义。本文拟在历史学的基础上,以历史发展时间脉络为主线,吸收和运用一些现代军事地理学的研究策略,侧重于从宏观的地理角度对历史战略不足进行动态或静态的浅析浅析,考察先秦阶段河内地区的经济区域、行政区划、人口、风俗、文化状况与相互往来的交通路线等,并在其基础上进一步探讨这些因素对当时军事战略形成、演变所起到的制约作用。
