从奴隶贸易存废的视角看英美矛盾

【摘要】：19世纪初,围绕是否禁止奴隶贸易,英美之间有着深刻的矛盾。英国惮于北美独立战争的胜利和国内废奴运动的高涨,希望通过禁止奴隶贸易"敲山震虎",以打压美国对廉价劳动力的需求。对美国而言,鉴于黑人奴隶制在南部种植园经济中占有举足轻重的地位,故在南北战争爆发前长期对禁止奴隶贸易持消极态度。英美间围绕奴隶贸易存废立场上的分歧既是二者国家利益使然,亦反映了当时复杂的国际环境。
[Abstract]:At the beginning of the 19 th century, there was a deep contradiction between Britain and America over whether to prohibit the slave trade. The British, afraid of the victory of the North American War of Independence and the upsurge of the domestic abolitionist movement, hoped to suppress American demand for cheap labor by banning the slave trade. For the United States, since black slavery played an important role in the southern plantation economy, it had long held a negative attitude towards the prohibition of the slave trade before the outbreak of the Civil War. The differences between Britain and the United States over the slave trade stand are not only the result of their national interests, but also reflect the complex international environment at that time.
