[Abstract]:At present, the United States media is extremely developed, and always affects every aspect of American life. Is it true that the press is as free and equal as it pretends to be in a white-majority country like the United States? What about the media status of black Americans? Negroes step by step from slaves to today, their social status has improved, but there is still a big gap with the white. In the field of media, blacks have been discriminated against, of course, the status of black media is different from each stage of history. Most of the black images presented in the media are negative. In their reports, the media always deliberately exaggerates the negative news of the black people. This long-term vilification of the black people and the extent to which the black people are valued and respected in the media. That is, the issue of black media status is the focus of this paper. This paper studies blacks and media issues from the perspective of media status, which is a useful supplement to this field. In black history its media status has gone through: being alienated, vilified, demonized, desalinated, of course, this classification is not absolute, each period is a dominant and will be mixed with other kinds of mixture. Because of its constitutional status of "freedom of expression", the media can exercise many functions of social supervision and become the "fourth force" after the executive, judicial and legislative powers. But the long existence of white supremacy in the United States, as well as the prevalence of mergers and monopolies in the media industry, are challenging the credibility of the media. This article starts with the transformation of the United States at the end of the 19th century, analyzes the influence and essence of the media, and then comprehensively analyzes the history of the black media status in various historical periods, and expounds the struggle that the black people have made for the improvement of their media status. And the reason and influence of the inferior position of the black media and the prospect of the black media status in the future. It is concluded that the status of black media continues to improve with the progress of history and its own efforts, and the status of black media and its social status influence each other. On the one hand, American media has a positive function of supervising government and society, on the other hand, white supremacy is a persistent disease.
