[Abstract]:During the Opium War, a considerable number of diplomatic notes of military intelligence value were lost overseas. The academic circles' negotiations on the Taiwan issue, such as Senior Citizen's, Ilib, etc., were unclear because of the lack of many notes between China and Britain. The collection of two kinds of diplomatic notes, such as the Taiwan Bibliography and the official Records of Taiwan, in the British Library, is basically not covered by the domestic academic circles. An analysis of the contents and rhetorical expressions of these two kinds of diplomatic instruments can provide a more comprehensive interpretation of the track and tactics of the "plenipotentiary" ministers in Daoguang years, the military and commercial attitudes of the Qing side towards the British side, and so on. It reflects the initiative or passivity of the Qing government in the negotiation process, the diplomatic strategy and posture of the Qing side, and the difference between the Qing Empire diplomacy strategy and its operation before and after the Nanjing Treaty, which involves the turning of the traditional Chinese diplomatic concept in the sense of time and space. These diplomatic notes relate to the British invasion of Taiwan and its counterattack, as well as to the moral principles of war and the integrity of the country's territory, and are of great significance.
