[Abstract]:The evolution of the tradition of the study of Chinese aristocracy by the North American Scholars is the projection of American Chinese studies on the issue of the Middle Ages. The study of the literati in the English world is an important part that can not be ignored. Jiang Shibin and Yi Peixia are the two most influential scholars. The schools of the North American scholars studying the middle ancient elite are mainly represented by Berkeley University and Columbia University. Of course, there are also scholars from Harvard University, Stanford University and other universities. The advantages and disadvantages of the North American Scholars' study on the advantages and disadvantages of the gentry, such as the anthropological study of their identity, and their attempts to respond to the similarities and differences between the middle ancient and the modern clans, provide a very useful reference for the Chinese scholars to study the problems of the literati. Their basic understanding of the political and social background of the Middle Ancient period, the political status of the literati, and the basic path and theory of the study of the literati were roughly divided into two opposing academic camps: those who advocated aristocracy and those who advocated social mobility. The two intersect and influence each other. The academic origins of the scholars in North America are mainly derived from the theory of change and case study in the Tang and Song dynasties of Japanese scholars, the gentry elite and clan research theories of native anthropology and sociology, and are directly influenced by Chinese Sinologists. Furthermore, the academic tradition is different from that of Chinese and Japanese scholars.
