民俗艺术学视角下的祝寿图像研究

【摘要】:祝寿图像是植根于我国传统文化沃壤之中,并长期应用于人生礼俗生活的一种民俗艺术样式。该图像的生成有生命信仰的观念基础和丰厚的传统文化蕴涵,不仅体现出国人对长寿的企盼、祝愿和追求,也是展现国人生命信仰风俗的鲜活“断切面”。可以说,祝寿图像兼具了风俗性、应用性、典型性和象征性等特征,其物化形态是视觉艺术的,本质属性却是民俗艺术的。尽管祝寿图像的主题意旨集中于祝颂长寿,但实质上,又融入了生命伦理和民间信仰等文化元素。因此,它以视觉形式传递福寿祝愿和渲染寿诞礼俗气氛的同时,也为包括人生礼俗在内的社会风俗增添了艺术色彩和文化理趣。作为传承有序的民俗艺术样式,祝寿图像的生成逻辑和文化功能,实乃缘自于人们对生命长度的苦苦追求,以及对现世生活的执着与眷恋。祝寿图像的最初生成源自星辰信仰,而在其发展和衍化过程中,又逐渐融入寿国、寿人意涵和儒家孝道伦理的文化因子,尤其是世俗观念中的福寿观、多子观和富贵观等吉祥内涵的渗透,皆成为考索和解读该图像生成机制的重要线索与基点之所在。从祝寿图像符号构成系统来看,其意象构成谱系颇为丰富,涉及人物、动物、植物、无机界中的诸多物象。这些意象元素的采用,是历史认知、古代天文、民间风俗、神话故事等的汇聚,亦是祝寿图像亦幻亦真、虚实结合的结果。从祝寿图像中意象构成主题与创作动机来说,主要是沿袭了古代文化中形象思维和观物取象的传统,体现出中国传统民间美术的思维模式。图像的主题皆围绕着长寿寓意而展开,因此,无论是寿意鲜明而强烈的构成元素(如寿星、仙桃),还是作为辅材(如猫、蝶、牡丹、桂花),或带有象征意义(如山、石、日、月)的符号,皆可视为探究中华民族福寿文化密码的一把“钥匙”。尤为值得一提的是,自宋元以来文人士大夫阶层涉足祝寿图像创用以来,诸如梅、竹、菊和松、柏之类的带有士人阶层清贞品格和文化情趣的意象元素便融入到图像之中,加之那些格调不俗的题画诗文附着一起集中传达福寿之意,更为祝寿图像注入了雅文化的精神品位,也从一个侧面丰富和提升了这种民俗艺术样式的文化内蕴。而就民俗艺术的应用来看,祝寿图像亦呈现出明显的类型化倾向,而且它关涉到图像的民俗功能和文化应用的诸多问题,对其分析应立足本原文化背景和兼顾到等级社会制度下的文化情境,诸如:不同的社会阶层、文化层次、职业、性别,以及寿主的审美趣味等,在祝寿图像的应用类型中皆得以充分体现。可以说,对祝寿图像应用和创作特色进行必要的归类,不仅有助于其功能研究细化和深入,也是剖析和抽绎该图像创用特征及其存在意义的极佳视角。总之,对于祝寿图像的研究,不妨可视作体认中华民族深层文化心理结构的一种有效方式。而综合运用交叉学科视野和研究方法,深入探讨祝寿图像的生成机制、意象构成、应用类型和功能演化,更有助于从学理层面深度把握该图像作为民俗艺术“类”的规律和其所具备“种”的特点,从而厘清该图像民俗艺术价值、综合文化价值及其存在意义。而就学科意义来说,祝寿图像的研究不仅对于美术史和民俗学的个案研究具有积极的意义,而且有助于推动民俗艺术学研究向纵深发展。
