私有化是公共空间的终结?PRIVATIZATION, THE END OF PUBLIC SPACE?
Nowadays, the increasingly ubiquitous privatization has triggered an argument that whether this phenomenon indicates an end to public places, which is the issue that this essay is aimed on demonstrating. Generally, a public space is divided into narrow and broad definitions, with the former referring to the urban public space “for daily life and social life of urban residents in the use of outdoor public space” (Zukin 1995, 9), including streets, squares, residential areas of outdoor venues, parks, sports venues, etc., and the latter being extended to the space of public facilities, say, urban centers, commercial areas and urban green spaces.
Beginning with the background, the necessary elements in public space design will be shown. In the following, this essay will depict the decline in public space, analyzing the causes and the core reason. After that, the different attitudes toward the primary issue that whether privatization puts an end to public space will be outlined and illustrated. Subsequently, I come up with solutions that public space calls for the control of government and user-friendly design. Finally, my opinion that privatization is not the end of public space will be restated.

Privatization, the end of public space?
Solution
In summary, public space shrank dramatically during the last several decades, which exerts a great influence on people’s life. This trend is mainly caused by privatization, which raises an issue on whether privatization is the grave of public space. Some authors hold the opinion that it is the end to public space for the reason that in modern cities, the value of public space has been completely lost and the public interest in public space is falling. However, some arguments show another angle that the public space is still necessary for politics as well as daily life of citizens. Although what the public space will change to is hard to predict, within the scope of this essay, it should be clear that public space is still of great importance and an indispensable element of modern cities. It can be transformed into spaces of other forms, but privatization is far from the end of public space.
