In a decade, obesity has become a notable problem in many countries and the increasing of childhood obesity also has been concerned. Recently, a study showed that obesity and overweight are the growing problems in the world, it is more than half of adults in the UK are obese or weight imbalance, and many British children also had this healthy problem (Global Burden of Disease Study, 2013). For slowing the rise of corpulence, preventing childhood obesity is an effective solution to obesity society and governments should bear the responsibility of improving citizens’ health care. This essay will discuss the reasonswhy formulating policies and taking stronger action for preventing childhood obesityis necessary.
Governments should take some strong eractions for promoting health care and weight management because childhoodobesity has increased and become more serious nowadays. According to the Global Burden of Disease Study, close to 13 percent children are suffering from obesity in developing countries (2013). This phenomenon in advanced countries usually due to the bad eating habits and life style of the children. If this situation has not been improved, there are a large number of young peoplewill have different types of disease because of fatness, and the governments probably be blamedfor putting insufficient resources as well as efforts on the actions of health care. Therefore, the governments need toenhance publicawareness of healthy diet and adequate sportfor the prevention of childhood obesity.
Beingobese and overweight not only harm to health, but also can reduce children learning abilities, so governments should solve this problem as possible as they can. The poor health will affect students learning efficiency and school performance obviously. As a result, governmentswill be required to give more support to schools and that will need to spendmore resource and cost for helping obese students. Moreover, obesity and overweight problem possibly damage the image of countries. For example, some of people may relate Americans to fatness or too much junk food and have negative impressions with them.Hence, governments need to attach more importance on the issues of child’s health and take actions to prevent youth obesity.
The unsuccessful and ineffective government policies for decreasing the number of obese children so far is another important reason that governments need to change their plans to be more efficient. A new research reported that most of people agreed the government should notbe criticized for the increase of obesity since it is a personal responsibility (Lusk and Ellison, 2014).That means some of people thought that the things government did have not influence them too much.
In conclusion, obesity and overweight are growing among the younger generation and many of people are drawing more attention to those problems. Consequently, governments need to take stronger actions for solve the problems, because it related to the allocation of social resource and country images. Beside, many people cannot relate health issues such as obesity problem to government policies because of the unobvious effects of health policies, so governments should consider other more effective plan for protecting public health. In order to slow the rise of childhoodobesity, governments need to play an important role on promoting healthy life style and put effort on the improvement of citizens’ health care.
