【摘要】：自西方译坛二十世纪八十年代“文化转向”以来，翻译学者开始涉足翻译的社会文化领域，以安德烈·勒弗菲尔为代表的操纵学派将赞助（patronage）列为影响翻译过程的三大因素之一，凸显出赞助人（patron）与翻译之间的“操纵”（manipulation）关系。本文按照“中体西用、以史为证”的致思路径，借用西方术语“操纵”以及“赞助人”，结合中国翻译活动发生的生态环境，简要论述了中国政治话语外译的赞助问题。在回顾操纵学派理论的基础之上，通过回溯历史和概括现状，本文将赞助人的概念内化在中国语境中进行讨论，明确了中国官方赞助人的定义、构成、赞助方式和不同历史阶段的表现特征。同时，通过引述中国外宣状况、翻译行业的报告数据，着力突出了官方赞助人“操纵”翻译行为的目的和方式。此外，在前文宏观论述之后，本文选取《邓小平文选》第三卷外译活动作为案例分析，展现了官方赞助人在挑选译者、组织出版和发行、影响文本翻译策略等方面的力量。本文从系统概述到具体实例分析，简明地描绘了官办译场和官方翻译活动的历史演进。由此可以得到如下结论：第一，以帝王、高官、政府机构为主要代表的官方赞助行为贯穿了中国翻译的历史，，是中国外译事业的主导力量，在当代政治话语外译活动仍占据主导地位。第二，根据操纵程度的不同，官方赞助人与译者之间存在着三种关系：松散的聘请关系（包括主宾关系和朋友关系）、强权的上下级关系（或者君臣关系）和现代的雇佣关系（以薪资为基础）。第三，当代官方政治话语外译具有较为复杂的双层赞助人结构：上层是政府赞助人从宏观上影响翻译内容的选择和翻译方向，下层是政府设立的翻译机构具体决定怎么译、谁来译、怎么出版发行等问题。上下两层的赞助人对官方政治话语外译的操控力度极为强烈，其操控方式包括决定翻译选材、设立翻译出版机构、制定翻译流程和规范、影响译者以及对文本的直接操纵。总而言之，当代中国官方赞助人对政治话语外译的操纵实质上是对官方源文本“信”的追求，是对译者主观性的约束，是确保翻译实现其政治经济目的的形式。
