[Abstract]:On the basis of relevance theory put forward by Spieber and Wilson, Gert puts forward relevance translation theory, which provides a new perspective for translation. The purpose of this thesis is to study the translation of humorous utterances in movies with relevance translation theory. Humor, as a common way of language communication, plays an important role in people's daily life. Although many scholars have studied humor from various perspectives, such as sociology, psychology, philosophy and so on, the translatability and untranslatability of humor have always been the subject of discussion and discussion. Some scholars equate the difficulty of humor translation with that of poetry translation, and think that humor is untranslatable, while some scholars believe that the untranslatability of humor is rooted in the different linguistic and cultural backgrounds contained therein. Of course, some scholars think that humor is translatable and put forward corresponding translation methods from the perspective of functional translation. However, few scholars study humor translation from the perspective of relevance translation theory. Not to mention the study of humorous translation, which is rich in language and culture. Based on the relevance translation theory proposed by Gert, this paper explains the importance of relevance translation theory to humor translation, and discusses the translatability of humor translation from the perspective of relevance translation theory. Especially for humorous utterances with cultural and linguistic elements. Relevance translation theory points out that in the process of humorous translation, the translator should not only analyze the cognitive environment of the source text, but also correctly understand and infer the cultural and linguistic humor in the source text, and judge the cognitive environment of the audience correctly. By preserving the communicative clues of the original text or making appropriate adjustments in the form of expression of the target text, the best correlation of the cultural and linguistic elements in the original text is ensured to be reproduced in the target text. Making the target audience react to the same humorous utterance as the source audience, that is, to retain the humorous effect of the original text is considered to be a successful humorous translation. This is not only the principle of humor translation, but also the criterion of humor translation. Finally, the author applies this theoretical framework to humorous discourse translation with cultural and linguistic elements. According to the direct translation and indirect translation proposed by Gert, this paper puts forward three specific strategies: literal translation, annotation translation and free translation. No matter what translation method is adopted, it is feasible as long as the best correlation can be obtained.
