[Abstract]:Due to the cross-disciplinary nature of translation studies, the traditional translation theory studies translation from the perspective of structural linguistics or deconstruction linguistics or philosophy, and fails to fully explain the translation phenomenon. Translation is also a kind of language application. Therefore, it is necessary to make pragmatic analysis of translation. At present, some scholars at home and abroad have conducted some pragmatic studies on it, but they have failed to fully and thoroughly reveal the pragmatic nature of translation. From the perspective of cognitive pragmatics, the present study attempts to study how relevance theory influences the translator's understanding of the original text and the role of adaptation theory in the production of target text from the perspective of cognitive pragmatics. The main purpose of this paper is to construct a cognitive pragmatic model based on relevance theory and adaptation theory for translation studies in order to effectively guide translation practice and construct a unified theoretical framework for pragmatics in social and cultural contexts. The main idea of this study is that translation activities include two dynamic processes: decoding-reasoning process and coding-selection process. In the second process, the author, the translator and the target reader are all involved, and the translation is the result of the interaction of the tripartite cognitive environment. Considering the three parties involved in the translation activities (author, translator and target reader), the author considers that the cognitive context of the translator is the key factor for the success of the communicative activity between the author and the target reader. Based on the review and reflection of previous studies, the author believes that translation studies under the guidance of relevance theory and adaptation theory have a certain one-sided nature. Because relevance theory mainly deals with the first dynamic process of translation, that is, the understanding of the original text, while adaptation theory mainly involves the output of the second dynamic process, that is, the target text. Neither paid enough attention to the interaction of the tripartite cognitive environment. Their interaction is emphasized because translation involves both the understanding of the original text and the output of the target text. The translator's neglect of either side will affect the communicative activities and even lead to the complete failure of the communicative activities. Therefore, on the basis of previous studies and in order to overcome its one-sidedness, this paper attempts to combine relevance theory and adaptation theory from the perspective of cognitive pragmatics to construct a comprehensive relevance adaptation model for translation studies. The model regards translation activities as multiple interactions between the author, the translator and the target reader in both cognitive and cultural context. In order to prove the validity of the model, this paper collects a large number of corpus from the previous translation practice, and uses the theoretical model to analyze the model. Based on the analysis of the collected data, this paper draws the following conclusions: in order to produce a target text with similar pragmatic effects as the original text, the translator should be aware of the cognitive and cultural differences in the process of translation. Because cognitive and cultural differences affect the use and understanding of language; The relevance adaptation model proposed in this paper studies translation process from the perspective of cognitive pragmatics and attaches importance to dynamic contextual analysis, but this model is only a preliminary attempt to construct a unified theoretical framework for translation studies. Further research is needed.
