视觉语法与关联理论视角下的讽刺漫画寓意解读

【摘要】:社会发展促进了人们交流与表征方式的变化,言语交际模式不再仅仅局限于语言符号形式,而是倾向于以多符号多模态的方式呈现,即带有文字的语篇中融入了多种交流模式如声音、图像、视频等。Halliday(1978, p.39)认为:语言是一种社会符号,是一个“意义潜势”的系统,语言的语法“不是一套用来参考的规则,而是制造意义的资源。”换言之,文化系统中那部分非语言的社会符号也具有传递意义的可能性。作为一种视觉艺术形式,讽刺漫画是由文字与图像符号组成的交际语篇,除了发挥娱乐大众的功能,更是一种传递作者创作意图的手段。目前对讽刺漫画的研究主要集中于心理学、美学、新闻传播、以及认知语言学等领域,很少从语用学角度出发,将非语言符号纳入研究,来对漫画寓意进行深入解读,然而其在漫画的社会功能中扮演着重要角色。 作为一种视觉交流方式,从言说者角度来讲,漫画家常以文字与图像的巧妙布局形式来达到启发读者,传递漫画创作的目的,是真实交际意图的传递过程;从读者角度来讲,阅读漫画就是在寻求其图像与文字这种“复合语言”内部如何获得最佳关联,促成整个语篇衔接连贯的寓意解读过程。本文是以讽刺漫画为研究对象,以国内最权威的“讽刺与幽默”中(截止到2014年1月)的漫画作品为语料,从社会符号学与语用学角度出发,以视觉语法与关联理论为理论指导,来探讨讽刺漫画的寓意推理过程。由于文字与图像在作为交际符号的同时,也扮演着表意手段的角色,同样具有“意义潜势”,它们共同参与着整个语篇的寓意建构,通过言语行为的语言特征与视觉行为中的图像特征以及该语篇存在的语境特征来共同实现,三者互为补充,缺一不可。 本文总共五章,第一章“引言”,主要阐释研究目的、动机、意义、方法以及论文整体框架。第二章“文献综述”,在阐明漫画以及讽刺漫画定义的基础上,从心理学、美学、新闻传播以及认知语言学角度总结了前人研究,然后指出前人研究所作出的贡献与存在的不足。第三章“理论框架”,首先分别详细阐述了关联理论与视觉语法的主要内容以及各自的优缺点,从而进一步说明将两个理论结合的可能性、必要性与可行性。第四章“个案研究与讨论”,,旨在阐述此研究的语料来源与分类,然后运用上述理论框架来进行详细的个案研究,最后对研究结果进行讨论。第五章“结论”,该章节总结了本研究的成果与贡献,并对其中存在的局限性做出思考,最后对将来相关研究提出建议。 本文认为,解读讽刺漫画的寓意,读者可以从再现、互动与构图三方面来分析漫画语篇中各符号间的内部协同合作,得到隐含前提信息,并以此再结合文字与语境信息进行推理,来获得图像与文字之间的最佳关联以及语篇整体连贯,从而成功解读出漫画所传递的真实意图即隐含寓意。 该研究从社会符号学与语用角度来解读漫画寓意,发现: 1)讽刺漫画的创作与寓意的表达主要是以动作、反应、言语心理或混合过程呈现的叙述语篇形式为主; 2)讽刺漫画寓意的解读是一个“多级明示推理”的过程,其中分析图像中符号间的内部协作可以获得漫画语篇的隐含前提,为获得图像文字之间的最佳关联提供预设信息; 3)讽刺漫画中文字与图像位置所反应的信息值与视觉语法中介绍的图像文字关系基本一致,与人类认知方式存在象似性; 4)讽刺漫画语篇中文字不仅影响对图像的理解,还突出反映了创作者对描述事件的主观态度; 5)颜色,表情等非言语符号具有潜在信息值,有助于激活漫画语篇中与寓意相关的关联信息。 此外,该研究的意义在于: 1)理论上,将言语交际的研究范围扩到非语言层面,并弥补了关联理论在解释非言语交际中不足,为社会符号学与语用学的界面研究起到了示范作用,同时论证了将视觉语法运用到东方文化视野下的图像分析的可行性; 2)实践上,为人们欣赏漫画解读漫画寓意提供了新途径和理论指导,并对漫画艺术教学具有借鉴作用。
[Abstract]:Social development promotes the change of people's communication and representation. The mode of speech communication is no longer confined to the form of language symbols, but tends to be presented in a multimodal and multimodal manner. That is, a variety of communication patterns, such as sound, image and video, are incorporated into the text with.Halliday (1978, p.39) that language is a kind of society. Symbol is a system of "meaning potential". The grammar of language is "not a set of rules for reference, but a resource for making meaning." in other words, the non language social symbols in the cultural system also have the possibility of transmitting meaning. As a visual art form, caricatures are made up of words and image symbols. In addition to playing the function of the entertainment masses, the communicative language is a means to convey the author's creative intention. The current research on satirical comics is mainly focused on the fields of psychology, aesthetics, news dissemination and cognitive linguistics. However, it plays an important role in the social functions of cartoons.
As a way of visual communication, from the speaker's point of view, comic books are often used to enlighten the readers by the ingenious layout of words and images, to convey the purpose of comic creation and the transfer process of the true communicative intention; from the angle of the reader, the reading comic is how to seek the interior of the "compound language" such as the image and the text. This article is based on the caricature of the most authoritative "satire and humour" in China as the corpus, from the perspective of social semiotics and pragmatics, guided by the theory of visual grammar and relevance theory. The parable reasoning process of satirical cartoons. As words and images act as communicative symbols, they also play the role of ideographic means. They also have "meaning potential". They participate in the allegorical construction of the whole text, the linguistic features of speech act and the image characteristics in visual behavior, and the context of the text. The three are complementary and indispensable.
This article is a total of five chapters. The first chapter, "Introduction", mainly explains the purpose, motivation, meaning, method and overall framework of the paper. The second chapter "literature review", on the basis of clarifying the definition of comics and caricature, summarizes the previous research from the perspective of psychology, aesthetics, news communication and cognitive linguistics, and then points out the previous research institute. The third chapter, "theoretical framework", first detailedly expounds the main contents of relevance theory and visual grammar and their respective advantages and disadvantages, and further illustrates the possibility, necessity and feasibility of combining the two theories. The fourth chapter "a case study and discussion" is intended to explain the language of this study. Material sources and classification, and then use the above theoretical framework to carry out a detailed case study, and finally discuss the results of the study. The fifth chapter "conclusion", this chapter summarizes the results and contributions of this study, and makes a reflection on the limitations of the existing research, and finally puts forward some suggestions on the future research.
In this paper, it is believed that reading the allegory of caricature, readers can analyze the internal cooperation and cooperation among the symbols in the comic text from three aspects of reproduction, interaction and composition, and get the implied premise information, and then combine the text and context information to get the best connection between the image and the text and the overall coherence of the text. The real intention conveyed by cartoon is implied successfully.
From the perspective of social semiotics and pragmatics, this study interprets comic implications.
1) The creation of satirical cartoons and the expression of their implied meanings are mainly in the form of narrative texts presented by actions, reactions, speech psychology or mixed processes.
2) the interpretation of the satirical comic implication is a process of "multistage ostensive inferential", in which the internal cooperation between symbols in the image can obtain the implied premise of the comic text, and provide the presupposition information for the best association between the images.
3) the information value of the text and image position in the caricature is basically consistent with the images and characters introduced in the visual grammar, and there is an iconicity with the human cognitive style.
4) Characters in caricature texts not only affect the understanding of images, but also highlight the subjective attitudes of the creators towards describing events.
5) nonverbal symbols such as color and expression have potential information value, which helps activate the related information associated with the implied meaning in comic texts.
In addition, the significance of the study is:
1) in theory, the scope of speech communication is expanded to the non language level, and it makes up for the lack of Relevance Theory in the interpretation of non-verbal communication, which has played a demonstration role in the study of the interface of social semiotics and pragmatics, and demonstrates the feasibility of applying visual grammar to the image analysis under the oriental cultural field.
2) Practically, it provides a new way and theoretical guidance for people to appreciate the caricature to interpret the meaning of the caricature, and has a reference for the teaching of caricature art.
