[Abstract]:As one of the main styles of modern urban western architecture in Shanghai in the 1930s, Art Deco has become an important part of the urban visual landscape, and thus a microcosm of the architectural style in the "modern" era of Shanghai in the 1930s. In terms of architectural style, Art Deco is indispensable to modern Shanghai urban architectural history. Today, we can still see the reappearance of Art Deco style buildings in Shanghai, which proves that this style is not just a style of the past, or a symbol of the luxury fashion of the past. The reproduction of this style is not only based on yearning for the nostalgic culture, but also becomes a symbol of a city's architectural culture, a symbol of the development of a modern city and a symbol of the historical context, based on such a realistic environment. The formation and development of this architectural and decorative style has become a hot topic for many scholars. Based on the background of Shanghai's urban construction and social culture, this paper excavates the inherent law and cultural meaning of this style from the historical culture and the urban social background. And tries to give Shanghai Art Deco architectural style a new understanding and definition in the context of "nostalgia" and "modern".
