从关联理论看《水浒传》称谓语的翻译

【摘要】：本文从关联理论的角度研究《水浒传》中称谓语的翻译。旨在通过比较、分析这些称谓语的译文，发现评价称谓语译文的标准、找到翻译称谓语的原则。作为一种跨学科理论，关联理论为翻译研究提供了一个全新的视角。它认为交际本质上是一种明示—推理过程。在成功的交际中，交际者(说话人)和受众(听话人)默契配合，各自选择恰当的代码和语境：交际者在组织话语前，会对受众可能用来理解话语的代码和语境信息做出正确的推理、判断；而受众则会利用自己所能找到的一切代码和信息，来推断出交际者的意图。翻译可以被看作是一种由两轮交际活动构成的语际交际，而译者是原文作者和译文读者之间的桥梁。在第一轮交际中，译者作为受众，，要正确理解原文作者的意图；在第二轮交际中，译者作为交际者，要通过恰当的译文把他(她)对原文作者意图的理解展示给译文读者。本研究从《水浒传》中收集了81个含有称谓语的句子，同时也收集了它的两个英译本中对应的句子。从关联理论角度对他们进行对比、分析，发现关联原则既适用于称谓语翻译的评价，也适用于称谓语翻译的实践。在评价称谓语译文时，既要看它是否传达了原文想要表达的意图，又要看读者理解它时是否需要过多的处理努力。在具体翻译称谓语时，译者应当努力使原文作者的意图与译文读者的期待相吻合：首先，译者要识别原文作者使用称谓语的意图；然后，对译文读者的认知语境和交际期待进行估计；最后，把他(她)自己对原文作者意图的理解，转换成不需要过多处理努力的译文。
[Abstract]:This paper studies the translation of address terms in Water margin from the perspective of relevance theory. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the translation of these appellations, to find out the criteria of appraising them, and to find out the principles of translation. As an interdisciplinary theory, relevance theory provides a new perspective for translation studies. It holds that communication is essentially an ostensive-inferential process. In successful communication, the communicator (the speaker) and the audience (the hearer) cooperate with each other and choose the appropriate code and context: the communicator is in front of the organization of the discourse. The audience will make a correct inference and judgment on the code and contextual information that the audience may use to understand the utterance, while the audience will use all the codes and information they can find to infer the intention of the communicator. Translation can be regarded as a kind of interlingual communication composed of two rounds of communicative activities, and the translator is the bridge between the original author and the target reader. In the first round of communication, the translator, as the audience, should correctly understand the intention of the original author, and in the second round, the translator, as the communicator, should show his / her understanding of the author's intention to the target reader through a proper translation. In this study, 81 sentences with appellations were collected from Water margin, and the corresponding sentences in its two English versions were also collected. From the perspective of relevance theory, it is found that the relevance principle is not only applicable to appellation translation, but also to the practice of appellation translation. When appellation translation is evaluated, it depends not only on whether it conveys the intention intended by the original text, but also on whether the reader should make too much effort to understand it. The translator should strive to match the intention of the original author with the expectations of the target readers. First, the translator should recognize the intention of the original author to use the appellation; then, the translator should identify the intention of the original author to use the appellation. The cognitive context and communicative expectations of the target reader are estimated. Finally, the author's own understanding of the author's intention is transformed into a translation that does not require too much processing.
