【摘要】：词语是语言和文化的重要组成要素，随着语言的发展，词语也被打上了文化的烙印。文化负载词是文学作品中最难翻译的部分，其翻译策略理应得到我们的重视。 本文将以目的论作为理论基础,对葛浩文译《生死疲劳》中的文化负载词的翻译策略进行探讨。在这部小说中，莫言运用了大量具有中国传统文化和时代特色的词语，而译者在翻译这些词语时也采取了不同的策略，，但其目的是一致的。通过对《生死疲劳》的翻译，葛浩文意在将中国传统的文化和习俗介绍到西方国家以增进他们对中国的了解。 文章对《生死疲劳》中文化负载词的翻译策略进行了阐释，研究了目的理论如何影响文献型翻译和工具型翻译策略的选择。同时，葛浩文译《生死疲劳》的翻译目的是如何实现的也得以展示。通过分析译者的翻译策略得出结论：在翻译文学作品中的文化负载项时，译者更多采用的是文献型翻译策略，而以工具型翻译策略为辅。
