多元系统理论下《西游记》两个英译本研究

本研究以埃文-佐哈尔的多元系统理论为基础,以李提摩太和余国藩两位译者在不同历史时期的《西游记》英译本为个案,采用描写翻译研究范式,以定性的研究方法将译者和译本置于其所处的多元系统之中,对一本多译现象进行历时研究。相距近70年的不同时期的两个《西游记》英译本呈现出怎样不同的特点?所呈现的不同特点与翻译文学在目标文学多元系统中所处的位置有什么关联?翻译文学在文学多元系统中的地位对译者和译本产生了怎样的影响?本研究旨在探究翻译文学在目标文学多元系统中的位置对译者翻译策略选择的影响。研究发现,20世纪初期《西游记》英译处于“西方中心主义”的语境中,翻译文学处在西方文学多元系统的“边缘”位置,译者更注重译本的“可接受性”并为源文本寻找现成的二级模式,归化是翻译的首要策略。李提摩太译本的归化主要表现在其对原文实施的跨文化操纵,即“援耶入佛”翻译策略的运用,具体表现为:对《西游记》主旨及结构的策略性处理,对人物形象的基督化诠释以及对部分内容的有意误译;而20世纪末期《西游记》英译处于“多元文化”的社会历史语境中,中华民族崛起,翻译文学在西方文学多元系统中的位置逐渐由“边缘”向“中心”演进。此时翻译活...
