从评价理论视角看小说《青衣》女主角在英译本中的形象再现

【摘要】：《青衣》在毕飞宇创作道路上具有重要的转折意义,主题深刻,人物形象鲜明,刻画了一个在现实生活中执着追求艺术,对于生活却缺少热情的青衣形象,其英译本是由美国著名的汉学家葛浩文与其夫人林丽君合作译成,在英语世界获得了一致好评,称之为中国当代文学作品输出的成功范例。然而,国内外学者对《青衣》及其英译本的研究却相对甚少,使用评价理论对其人物形象在英译本中再现的研究更是罕见。因此,本研究运用澳大利亚语言学家马丁的评价理论,以《青衣》及其英译本中塑造女主角形象的评价资源为研究对象,通过建立汉英评价资源双语平行数据库,探讨了小说中有关女主角形象塑造的态度资源,包括情感,判断和鉴赏资源在英译本中的再现情况及其背后隐藏的译者翻译策略的选择。研究发现:(1)《青衣》中用来塑造女主角形象的共有135例态度评价资源,其相对应的英译本中共有141条态度评价资源,汉英评价资源双语平行数据库中的评价资源并不是一一对应的。(2)《青衣》中塑造女主角形象的积极态度评价资源有44例,消极态度评价资源有91例,其英译本中积极态度评价资源有42例,消极态度评价资源有99例;汉英消极评价资源远远多于积极评价资源;(3)《青衣》情感评价资源三个子系统中,情感、判断和鉴赏各有35、74、26例,其英译本中与其相对应的情感评价资源各有35、82、24例。(4)《青衣》中关于女主角形象塑造的评价资源主要有判断维度,消极的规范资源、消极的情感资源和积极的韧性资源;分别占比重为:34(25.1%),18(13.3%)和13(9.6%)。相应地,在英译本中,同样主要利用这几个维度的态度评价资源,分别占比重为:37(26.2%),19(13.5%),和12(8.55%)。研究结论:(1)本研究论证了评价理论是一种跨越小句的用于语篇分析的理论,对于人物形象塑造和分析具有独特的效力和解释力,此理论对于翻译评论的研究起着重要借鉴作用;(2)小说的评价资源有助于作者或者叙事者显性或隐性地表明自己对人物和事件的态度,是塑造人物整体形象的有效手段,是小说翻译批评的重要依据。(3)塑造人物形象主要借助情感评价资源中的判断资源;(4)《青衣》中女主角的人物形象在其译文中再现程度高,大部分是忠实于原文的翻译,其汉英评价资源有很高的吻合度。研究意义:本研究通过对比分析《青衣》及其英译本中有关女主角人物形象的评价资源来评判其英译本,这一方面丰富了评价理论的研究范畴,为评价理论在翻译评论中的运用提供了范例;另一方面本研究论证了评价资源是塑造人物整体形象的有效手段,说明对评价资源的研究也是翻译评论的重要依据。
