【摘要】：在美国现代文坛，西奥多·德莱塞被称为“城市作家”，城市意象几乎贯穿其所有作品。而其城市意象包容万象，成为了统领城市里不同意象的母体。本文以德莱塞小说为主要文本，通过对附着于城市上的意象进行解读，探讨这些意象所呈现出的精神指向和道德诉求。本文从以下几个层面对德莱塞小说中的城市意象进行解读：引言部分从德莱塞的介绍入手，了解德莱塞的生平。再从国内外的研究现状入手阐述选题的意义与价值，并在此基础之上阐明论文的研究目标、研究内容、研究方法及关键问题。第一章分析德莱塞小说城市意象的由来。从作者的都市经历入手，结合时代背景，分析德莱塞作品聚焦城市的原因，探寻以芝加哥、纽约这些大城市为代表的工业化城市的特点，以及工业革命带来的变革对美国文学的影响，对创作主体心灵的感染。第二章从德莱塞的作品入手，通过分析他的艺术手法：对比、色彩和细节描写，人物形象的活灵活现的刻画，勾画德莱塞对城市的独特言说；分析德莱塞小说城市意象的与众不同之处，指出德莱塞笔下的城市是一个矛盾综合体。第三章通过具体文本寻找德莱塞城市意象的构成，从中可以看到作家对城市、对人生的不断反思。第四章通过写城市的发展，工业文明，反映德莱塞的城市观。第五章，探究了德莱塞小说城市意象背后的精神实质和伦理道德，指出他的城市描写对工业化、现代化城市精神的担忧以及对现代消费的拥护与抑制，在聚焦城市探讨人生的背后，，隐藏着深刻的现代性价值关怀。结语部分，重申论点，总结全文。
[Abstract]:Theodore Dreiser is called "urban writer" in modern American literary world.The image of the city contains all kinds of phenomena and becomes the parent body of the leading city which does not agree with the elephant.This paper takes Dreiser's novels as the main text, through the interpretation of the image attached to the city, discusses the spiritual direction and moral appeal of these images.This paper interprets the city image in Dreiser's novels from the following aspects:Introduction part from the introduction of Dreiser, to understand the life of Dreiser.Then the significance and value of the topic are expounded from the current research situation at home and abroad, and on the basis of this, the research objectives, research contents, research methods and key issues are expounded.The first chapter analyzes the origin of the city image in Dreiser's novels.Starting from the author's urban experience and combining with the background of the times, this paper analyzes the reasons why Dreiser's works focus on cities, and explores the characteristics of industrialized cities, such as Chicago and New York.And the impact of the industrial revolution on American literature and the soul of the creative subject.The second chapter starts with Dreiser's works, through the analysis of his artistic techniques: contrast, color and detail description, vivid portrayal of the characters, draw Dreiser's unique words to the city;By analyzing the difference of city image in Dreiser's novels, the author points out that the city in Dreiser's works is a contradiction complex.The third chapter looks for the constitution of Dreiser's city image through the concrete text, from which we can see the writer's continuous reflection on the city and life.The fourth chapter reflects Dreiser's view of the city by writing about the development of the city and industrial civilization.The fifth chapter probes into the spiritual essence and ethics behind the city image in Dreiser's novels, and points out that his city description worries about industrialization, modern urban spirit, and supports and suppresses modern consumption.In the focus on the city behind the exploration of life, there is a profound value of modern concern.In the conclusion part, I repeat the argument and summarize the whole paper.
