[Abstract]:Alice Walker,1944- is one of the most influential writers in American literature. She is also the first black woman writer to win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature. The novel Purple has attracted wide attention for its unique epistolary form and vivid female image. This paper focuses on Bakhtin's dialogue theory to explain the subjectivity of black women in Purple. Black women, known as "mules of the world", are oppressed by both race and gender. Purple completes the construction of their own subjectivity and the growth of their independent self through dialogue by exposing and subverting the silence imposed upon them. The communication between groups also evokes the awakening of the subject consciousness. The protagonist pursues himself tenaciously, breaks the separation between man and man, man and nature, and shows the desire and pursuit of building a harmonious homeland together. Based on Bakhtin's theory of dialogue and polyphonic novels, this paper takes the dialogue of the three female protagonists in Purple as a visual angle to witness the construction process of the subjectivity of black women through the textual analysis of the main black women in Walker's novels. The construction of subjectivity can be divided into three stages: the first stage: monologue-self's unresponsive to God (silence and absence of female consciousness); The second stage: polyphonic-continuous dialogue between self and other (awakening of subjective consciousness); the third stage: the establishment of speech-self and freedom (the completion of subjectivity construction). Dialogue is an important way for black women to realize themselves and construct subjectivity. The full text is divided into five parts, the first part is the introduction of the writer and his works, the second part is the literature review, the research status of Purple and the feasibility of interpreting Purple with dialogue theory. The third part is the theoretical basis of the specific interpretation; the fourth part is the combination of dialogue theory of the text specific analysis, through dialogue, three black women completed the subjective construction; the fifth part summarizes the full text, research findings and deficiencies.
