翻译中的文化转移—对林语堂《英译重编传奇小说》的文化分析

【摘要】：翻译研究自20世纪80年代开始其文化转向，自此翻译研究不再局限于语言层面，而是将翻译置于历史，文化，社会的宏观语境下进行探讨。翻译不再仅仅被视为语言的转换，更被看作文化之间的交流，，并由此拓展了翻译研究的新视野，开辟了翻译研究的新角度。在文化翻译观的新视角下，完全对等的翻译被认为是不存在的。作为最早进行文化翻译理论研究的学者之一的勒菲弗尔提出了翻译的改写理论，该理论在文化学派的理论中占有重要地位。勒菲弗尔认为，一切翻译都是改写，受到意识形态，诗学和赞助人因素的操控。这一理论强调了文化因素在翻译过程的作用，和译者的主体地位。该理论为我们提供了从诗学，意识形态，赞助人因素等方面来研究翻译活动和文本的新思路，并能有效解释译者对于翻译原材料的选择，在翻译过程中对于翻译策略的选择，以及为什么做出这样或那样的改编等具体问题。林语堂旅美期间用英文创作了大量作品，翻译介绍了大量中国古典文艺作品，受到了异域读者的好评。他的英语作品的一大特点是翻译与写作结合，相得益彰。林语堂的译本《英译重编传奇小说》就是一个十分典型的改写案例。林语堂的翻译活动有明确的翻译目的，即把中国文化传译到西方，向西方读者展现中国文化的异域特色。由于其翻译目的以及受到意识形态和诗学等因素的操控和影响，林语堂的译本并不十分忠实于原文，而是在其翻译过程中对原文本进行了明显的，有意识的调整和改动。本论文尝试以文化翻译观及改写理论为角度对该译作进行分析研究。论文共分六个部分，引言，第一，二，三，四章以及结语。第一章为文献综述，回顾了对林语堂翻译已有的研究成果。第二章介绍了该研究所运用的理论框架。第三章介绍了林语堂的文化背景，以及他的译作和翻译观等。第四章为论文的主体部分。该章以改写理论为框架，对林编《英译重编传奇小说》进行了分析，试图说明其翻译策略的可行性。
[Abstract]:Since 1980s, translation studies have turned to culture. Since then, translation studies have not been confined to the linguistic level, but have been explored in the macro context of history, culture and society. Furthermore, it is regarded as the exchange between cultures, which expands the new perspective of translation studies and opens up a new perspective of translation studies. In the new perspective of cultural translation, translation with complete equivalence is considered to be non-existent. As one of the earliest scholars of cultural translation theory, Lefevere put forward the theory of translation rewriting, which plays an important role in the theory of cultural school. Lefevere believes that all translation is rewriting. Controlled by ideology, poetics and patronage, this theory emphasizes the role of cultural factors in the translation process and the translator's subjective position. The patron factor is used to study the new ideas of translation activities and texts, and it can effectively explain the translator's choice of translation raw materials and the choice of translation strategies in the process of translation. And why to make one or another adaptation and other specific issues. During his stay in the United States, Lin Yutang created a large number of works in English, translated and introduced a large number of Chinese classical literary works, which were well received by foreign readers. One of the major features of his English works is the combination of translation and writing. Lin Yutang's translation of legendary novels in English translation is a very typical case of rewriting. Lin Yutang's translation activities have a clear translation purpose, that is, to translate Chinese culture into the West. Showing the exotic features of Chinese culture to western readers, Lin Yutang's translation is not very faithful to the original text because of its translation purpose and its manipulation and influence by ideology and poetics. This thesis attempts to analyze and study the original text from the perspective of cultural translation and rewriting theory. The thesis is divided into six parts: introduction, chapter one, chapter two, chapter three, chapter four and conclusion. The first chapter is a literature review. The second chapter introduces the theoretical framework used in the study, and the third chapter introduces the cultural background of Lin Yutang. Chapter 4th is the main part of the thesis, which is based on the theory of rewriting, and analyzes the translation strategies of Lin Zuan (Legend of English recompilation), in an attempt to explain the feasibility of his translation strategies.
