文学翻译中的风格视角

【摘要】:近半个世纪以来,语言研究的成果和进展对翻译理论的探讨和深化起着十分重要的推动作用,翻译理论家正在许多学科领域进行探索,为翻译理论的建设开拓新的途径,提供新的论据,这些学科领域主要有应用语言学、社会语言学、语义学、符号学、逻辑学、美学等。文体学作为一门重要的学科进入欧美翻译理论研究工作始于六十年代。翻译理论之所以能借助文体学研究,是因为这两个研究领域的目的性是并行不悖的,即:如何凭借有效的语言手段进行社会交流;同时,二者也都不忽视文风的时代性及风格的个人性。翻译必须随文体之异、随原文风格之异而调整译文,必须保证译文对原文文体和风格的适应性。文体学的许多研究范围,如对语域的研究以及对句与句之间、段与段之间的逻辑发展关系的探讨,对翻译理论的探讨与实践都具有不可忽视的意义。 作为文体学的一个分支,文学文体学专门研究文学文体(诗歌、小说、散文、戏剧等)。本文研究对象为文学文体,是根据现代文学文体学理论,即结合语言学理论(主要研究风格的形式标记)和有关的文学批评理论(主要研究风格的非形式标记),来探讨文学翻译中的风格问题。风格是作家在写作中运用语言的方式和作风,是其世界观和辞章修养在使用语言中的体现。风格的实质从思想内容和语言形式两个方面表现出来。作家使用语言时都有一定的特点,如习惯使用一定的词语、句式、修辞技巧等,从而形成语言的个人风格差别,同时个人风格又是由个人的思想性格、气质修 养、审美观以及时代、处境等因素所决定,因此风格的概念比较宽。文体 风格是好的文学文本和好的译文不可缺少的重要因素,翻译中风格的传达 关键在于是否能在转换不同语言符号的同时,再现出原文所蕴涵的各种风 格价值。本文重点讨论风格翻译的必要性和重要性,原文风格的识别和译 文中风格的再现,,说明在译文中尽可能保留和传达原文的风格是理想翻译 的重要条件之一。 全文共分六部分,正文共四章。 序言部分简述现代文体学理论的主要研究内容及翻译风格论的中心 课题,并对全文内容作出简要说明. 第一章简述风格的定义并简要回顾翻译领域对风格是否可译的争论, 陈述自己的观点:通过实例证明风格在多数情况下是可译的,并能译好,但 同时指出由于风格有其审美和抽象的一面,要做到完全忠实于原风格是非 常困难的,然而在文学翻译中,风格翻译具有其必要性和重要性。 第二章着重讨论为什么文学文体学能够运用在文学翻译中。这是因为 一些传统的翻译理论有时候无法解决文学翻译中出现的问题,而借助于文 学文体学的研究成果,译者可以做到正确把握和再现原文风格。文学文体 学不仅对作家创作与文学评论有指导作用,对译家和评论家评论文学译本 也有重要意义。 第三章是全文重点.作为体现特定内容或题材的风格离不开形式方面 的东西,而形式不能独立于具体的表现手段,即语言形式。本章从语言学 的角度对文本进行文体风格分析.主要是对文本形式标记以从微观到宏观 的方式进行分析阐述:l.语音层面2.词汇层面3.句法层面4.修辞手段,说 明如何识别原文风格意义并使之在译文中得到合理的再现。 第四章主要考察非形式标记风格符号系统的具体表现,说明止步于风 格的语言形式标记是不够的,风格还具有所谓神韵、风骨、气势、情调等 特征,它们对读者会产生特定的心理或审美影响,因此进一步透彻理解原 文的总体风格是作好翻译的重要条件,这就需要对原文作者的精神气质、 写作意图、原作表现手法及作品本身具有的思想感情进行分析,木文还对 作为原作审美主体的译者在原文风格再现中的作用作了初步的探讨。 结论部分是对原文的归纳和总结:风格视角在文学翻译中占有一席重 要地位,它属于翻译中的美学层次。文学翻译中,仅能传达原文内容还不 够,文章风格越接近越好。风格分析能帮助译者从形式和内容两方面把握 原文,体会原文的精彩之处,为一篇内容忠实,风采依然的理想译文打下坚 实的基础。 关键词:文学翻译,文学文体学,文体分析,翻译风格论,风格的形式标 记与非形式标记 今
