从目的论角度比较研究戏剧《推销员之死》的两个中译本

戏剧是一种具有二元性的独特艺术形式,它既可以在舞台上为观众带来鲜活的视听享受,也可以像小说和诗歌一样作为文学作品供读者欣赏。然而,长期以来,戏剧翻译并未得到学术界的足够重视。国内外关于戏剧翻译研究的专著和论文也极为有限。戏剧的二元性使译者面临一个两难的困境:究竟是要突出戏剧的可读性,还是要保证其可表演性?此外,如何评价戏剧疑问也是一个棘手的问题。 国内外对戏剧翻译的研究起止于三十年前,“可表演性”与“可读性”之争一直贯穿其中,较著名且有代表性的当属英国理论家苏珊·巴斯奈特的理论。巴斯奈特在20世纪八十年代中期否定了与自己七十年代所提的“可表演性”观点,认为实现“可读性”应该是戏剧翻译者的第一要务。为了说明及协调这两个看似矛盾的观点,本文拟从功能角度出发考察这一矛盾,以目的论作为研究的理论基础,详尽对比分析《推销员之死》两个中文版本,其中一个版本由英若诚先生翻译,另一个版本由陈良廷先生翻译。 由德国功能派翻译理论发展而来的目的论指出,翻译是有明确目的的跨文化交际活动,翻译目的是决定翻译行为的首要因素,翻译的过程受到各种因素的综合制约。目的论为解决戏剧翻译困境提供了崭新的视角,并...
