中英访谈节目中称赞语回应策略的对比研究

【摘要】:称赞语对于维持社会交往中的和谐起着重要作用。但是对于称赞语回应策略,来自不同文化背景的人有着不同的偏好。不同的价值观导致了不同的语用规约,进而可能导致跨文化交际中的误解。因此新版中学英语教学大纲中进一步强调了提高英语学习者的文化意识和实际交际能力的重要性。本文研究以汉语和英语为母语的人在回应称赞语时所采用的策略,从文化视角阐释造成两者之间差异的潜在因素,以帮助英语学习者掌握所学语言的语用规范,辅助英语教学,提高语言使用者及讲授者在语言使用和交流中对文化差异的重视。本研究通过转录中美著名访谈节目中的采访对话收集语料,采用频率和T检验的统计方法,以解决如下研究问题: 1.在回应不同的称赞话题时,中美被采访者各自主要采用哪些回应策略? 2.中文的称赞语回应策略如何不同于英语的称赞语回应策略? 3.导致这些差异的因素是什么? 本研究主要有以下三个发现: 1.中国人偏好使用感谢、降级和微笑的回应策略,而美国人偏好使用感谢、微笑和限定的回应策略。 2.对于不同的称赞话题两组的回应趋势不同。对于称赞能力和性格两个话题,两组被采访者的回应策略与各自回应策略的整体趋势基本一致。显著差异在于外貌和亲友两个话题。对于称赞外貌,中国人倾向选择降级和评论的策略而非直接接受。对于称赞亲友,,大多数美国人也不再直接接受而是选择同意策略。 3.中美两个国家截然不同的文化起源以及他们对于个人成就,外貌,性格和群体成员持有的不同价值观是造成以上差异的主要原因,尤其是两者对待外貌和群组成员方面的差异。
[Abstract]:Compliments play an important role in maintaining harmony in social communication. However, for compliment response strategies, people from different cultural backgrounds have different preferences. Different values lead to different pragmatic rules, which may lead to misunderstanding in cross-cultural communication. Therefore, the new English syllabus emphasizes the importance of improving English learners' cultural awareness and practical communicative competence. In this paper, the strategies adopted by native speakers of Chinese and English in response to compliments are discussed from a cultural perspective in order to help English learners grasp the pragmatic norms of the language they are learning and assist in English teaching. Enhance the attention of language users and lecturers to cultural differences in language use and communication. This study collected the language data by transcribing the interview dialogue in the famous interview programs between China and the United States, and adopted the statistical methods of frequency and T test to solve the following problems: 1. In response to different praise topics, Chinese and American interviewees mainly adopt what response strategies? 2. How does the Chinese compliment response strategy differ from the English compliment response strategy? What is the cause of these differences? The main findings of this study are as follows: 1. Chinese prefer gratitude, demotion and smile response strategies, while Americans prefer gratitude, smile and limited response strategies. 2. The trend of response to different praise topics is different between the two groups. For the two topics of praise ability and personality, the response strategies of the two groups were basically consistent with the overall trend of their respective response strategies. The significant differences were in terms of appearance and relatives and friends. The Chinese tend to downgrade and comment on appearance rather than accepting it directly. For praising relatives and friends, most Americans no longer accept directly but choose the consent strategy. 3. The distinct cultural origins of the two countries and their different values about personal achievement, appearance, personality and group members are the main reasons for these differences, especially the differences in their treatment of appearance and group members.
