《堡垒》中宗教的功用研究

　　《堡垒》(1946)于西奥多·德莱塞逝世后出版,是一部能够鲜明体现作者宗教哲学的代表作品。在主题及写作手法方面,这部小说与德莱塞其他的作品均有明显差异。德莱塞与时任美国教友会领袖罗富斯·马修·琼斯的会面和随后的书信往来对于《堡垒》一书的创作起到了很大的作用。琼斯的人生和思想极大地激起了德莱塞对于约翰·乌尔曼《日记》的好奇心,并将他引向了贵格教派神秘主义的道路上。《堡垒》一书的故事情节围绕一个教友会家庭中两代人之间的冲突与和解展开。作为一个虔诚的教友会信徒,主人公苏伦·巴恩斯历经对教友会教义深深的依赖,对“神之光”的重新审视,以及最终对于神之旨意的领悟,从而获得了自身的精神安宁。《堡垒》平淡的叙述风格中亦包含着作者一生对于宗教以及人性的思考。然而,这部略显怪异的小说长期以来备受忽视,在德莱塞研究中很少被涉及到。因此,本研究聚焦于《堡垒》中的宗教沉思,以期探寻宗教对于引领现实生活以及建构精神世界的功用。本论文由五部分构成。引言部分简要概述了德莱塞的生平以及《堡垒》一书的创作缘起。接下来是国内外关于德莱塞、尤其是其作品《堡垒》的研究综述,还引入了有关教友会的一些必要的背景介绍,以及威廉·詹姆斯...
