[Abstract]:The Sun as usual is one of Hemingway's most famous works. Since its publication, scholars have paid great attention to the novel. Most of their studies focus on the hero image, female image, absurd consciousness and so on. The study of the new historicism in the works is few and far between. This paper takes the Sun as usual as the object of study, uses the core concepts of the new historicism literary theory, namely, "the textuality of history" and "the history of text" and "subversion" and "suppression", to analyze the novel and to understand the writer. The relationship between works and history. This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is an overall introduction to this research subject, including Sun as usual, New historicism and literature review. The second chapter is the history of the Sun as usual. The first two sections introduce the social situation after the first World War and the influence of Hemingway's life experience on his creation. The last two sections analyze the embodiment of alcoholism and escapism in the novel. The third chapter focuses on the textual nature of history and introduces the different historical construction of the novel "Sun as usual" in different periods by American and Chinese readers. Chapter four studies the subversion and suppression in the novel and analyzes how Jack and Brett challenge the mainstream moral consciousness but are restrained in the traditional values. Chapter five is the conclusion. It is found that the author's personal experience and his social situation affect the creation of his works. At the same time, readers will have different comments on the works in different periods and different backgrounds. In addition, each work is the result of compromise between the author and the ideology of his society. The study of Hemingway's novel the Sun as usual from the perspective of New historicism can help readers understand the social situation in the United States after the first World War and the influence of Hemingway's life on the creation of his works. In addition, the readers can better understand the different evaluation of the novel in different periods and countries, and understand the subversion and suppression experienced by the protagonists and heroines in the novels.
