严复在《大公报》上的一则佚函及相关问题考辨

【摘要】：《大公报》创办之初,严复曾致函《大公报》为时任顺天府尹的陈璧"辩诬"。此函为后人编的各种严复文集所漏收,是严复的一篇佚函。由于此函内容既涉及新政初期官绅和新旧之间的复杂人际关系,也直接关系到严复与《大公报》之间的关系,故特做一考辨。陈璧之被"诬",乃由于其作为官权代表,在抵制晚清绅权扩张的过程中,损害了作为绅权代表的黄思永、恽毓鼎等人的利益而致。作为陈璧同乡,严复"颇悉其为人",遂出而为之"辩诬",并劝诫《大公报》诸友"于采访之言稍加慎也"。《大公报》不为所动,依然坚持袒新抑旧,且"訾议旧党多不以实",严复因此与《大公报》关系疏离。
[Abstract]:At the beginning of the founding of Ta Kung Pao, Yan Fu wrote to Tai Kung Pao to defend Chen Bi's "falsehood" for the then Shun Tianfu Yin. This letter is missing from various Yan Fu works compiled by later generations and is a lost letter of Yan Fu. Since the contents of this letter are not only related to the complex interpersonal relationship between the officials and gentry in the early days of the New deal, but also to the relationship between Yan Fu and Ta Kung Pao. Chen Bi-zhi was "falsely accused" because he was the representative of official power, and in the process of resisting the expansion of gentry power in the late Qing Dynasty, it damaged the interests of Huang Siyong and Yun Yuding, who were representatives of gentry power. As Chen Bi's fellow townspeople, Yan Fu "quite knew his man", so he "argued against the falsehood" and exhorted the "Ta Kung Pao" friends "to be a little more careful in the interview." the "Ta Pao Pao" remained unmoved and still insisted on favouring the new and the old. And "criticism of the old party is not practical", Yan Fu and the relationship between the Ta Kung Pao alienated.
