[Abstract]:California's plan to limit chemical flame retardants in furniture was backed by Congress and the courts late last week. The bill was passed by Congress after the Senate agreed to some minor changes to the bill in the House of Representatives. It requires furniture manufacturers to disclose on a label whether such chemicals are contained in coated furniture. The Interior Furniture: flame-retardant Chemicals Act also provides for a fine of $2, 500 or $15, 000 per case for manufacturers who fail to prove their compliance.
