[Abstract]:With the continuous expansion of the domestic and foreign tourism market, tourism English talents become the shortage of talents in the society. In order to meet the needs of the society, colleges and universities in China have set up English courses for tourism. This kind of complex talent must first master solid professional knowledge, but also need to be proficient in the use of English. Therefore, the teaching quality of tourism English course to some extent affects the quality of future practitioners. Tourism English, as one of the branches of Special purpose English, is different from ordinary English because of its specialty and practicability. In order to better understand the offering of tourism English courses, this study investigates the problems of tourism English courses offered by HutchinsonWaters and Dudley-EvansSt John, and puts forward some suggestions for improving tourism English teaching. In this study, the students of tourism English course offered by a university college of arts and tourism were investigated by investigating the current teaching situation of the course and the students' expectations for the course. The purpose of this paper is to find out the problems existing in the course of tourism English and to find out the students' demand for the course. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 125 students who participated in tourism English course, and eight students and one teacher were interviewed. Through the investigation of the present situation of tourism English course, it is found that there are still some problems in the construction of the teaching staff, the selection of teaching methods and teaching materials, and the teaching evaluation. Although students have a better understanding of the relationship between ESP and EGP, the students hope that teachers will create a good classroom atmosphere for them and give them more opportunities to practice and improve their language application ability. Students hope that the textbooks will be more interesting and practical, and that written and oral tests will be more effective. Based on the analysis of the students' learning needs, this paper puts forward some suggestions to improve the tourism English teaching, such as improving the teachers' comprehensive ability and changing the traditional English teaching methods. Choose appropriate teaching materials and establish multi-dimensional evaluation standards. The author hopes that the research on the tourism English course offered by the university can provide a useful reference for the promotion of tourism English teaching in this school and other schools. In view of the limited number of research objects and the author's insufficient research experience, there are still some shortcomings in this study. However, the biggest deficiency lies in the research method: the questionnaire only reflects the students' learning needs, so the questionnaire only presents the students' views. Teachers, managers and other interest groups have failed to reflect the demand for tourism English courses. Hope that the future research can make up for the shortcomings, continue to deepen, better promote tourism English teaching.
