【摘要】：西夏首领制贯穿西夏政权始末,且在西夏全境范围内普遍存在。首领在基层民众中享有很大的权威,他们对外代表本部落,对内统领部落成员,西夏政府通过他们实现对部落的有效统治。本文利用出土西夏文文献、金石以及传世汉文典籍,主要从西夏首领的种类、西夏首领的族属以及西夏首领的职能等三个方面对首领作具体的分析。西夏首领有许多种,包括首领、大首领、小首领、正首领、副首领、权首领、权正首领、军首领、牧首领、内宿首领、溜首领等。这些首领总体上又可以分为两大类:一为部落意义上的首领;二为职官意义上的首领。西夏首领由多个民族的人担任,包括党项、吐蕃、回鹘、契丹、女真等,其中党项族首领占主体地位。而在每个民族内部,越是强宗大族,首领的人数也就越多。西夏首领具有军事、政治、经济等职能,其中尤以军事职能最为突出,这与西夏的部落兵制息息相关。首领是西夏社会中普遍存在的特殊人群,是连接西夏国家政权与基层民众的重要纽带,在西夏的政治经济生活中,起着非常重要的作用。首领作为部落领袖,统率种落之兵,因此西夏统治者往往任命他们为各级军事将领。对西夏首领进行专题研究,既有利于认识西夏的基层社会和部落兵制,也有助于认识西夏的社会性质,具有重要的研究价值。
