【摘要】：正在古代的神话、传说和一般的叙事中,出现过太阳照不到的黑暗地方。这种地方,要么在北方,要么在西方。《山海经·海外北经》:"钟山之神,名曰烛阴。视为昼,瞑为夜,吹为冬,呼为夏。不饮,不食,不息,息为风。身长千里,在无月之东。其为物,人面蛇身,赤色,居钟山下。"《山海经·大荒北经》:"西北海之外,赤水之北,有章尾山。有神,人面蛇身而赤,直目正乘,其瞑乃晦,其视乃明,不食,不寝,不息,风雨是谒。是烛九阴,是谓烛龙。"在这两处的烛龙神话中,烛龙身处的钟山(章尾山),制造昼夜的九阴之地,必定原本是永夜无昼之地,也就是太阳照不到的黑暗地方,《楚辞·天问》"日安不到,烛龙何照?"《淮南子·地形》"烛龙在雁门北,蔽于委羽
