Before taking on the journey of the WTO, most of the analysts were of the opinion that China accession to the WTO could harm the country's GDP. One of the reasons for their belief was the fact that most of the products that were developed within the country were enjoying the economies of large scale. In addition, as the intellectual property rights were almost not present in the country, Chinese entrepreneurs were engaged in the production of the "me-too" and a replica of the original products that were developed by Japan, US or Germany (Chao, 2012). The analysts were afraid that if the country joins the WTO, the Chinese entrepreneurs would be no more in the position to carry on the practice that will be a shock to the national economy. However, the Chinese government took the hard decision and after agreeing on different terms and conditions with the WTO, the government acceded to the agreement in December 2001 (Hille, 2010). The analysts start changing their view because instead of the threat, the accession to WTO emerged as an opportunity for the Chinese entrepreneurs. One of the dominant reasons for this could be attributed to the research and development in the country that not only resulted in high GDP growth, the Chinese entrepreneurs were in position to exploit new markets and the Chinese products could now be found in every major market of the world (Da-Li, 2010).
