从关联理论角度看《水浒传》中绰号的翻译

【摘要】:Sperber和Wilson创立的关联理论把交际看成是明示-推理的过程,在此过程中交际主动方提供明示行为,而受众则根据此明示行为推断说话者的意图。交际双方都寻求交际行为的最佳关联性,才有助于交际的顺畅和成功。翻译是一种特殊的交际活动,关联理论对翻译的本质有着强大的解释力。关联理论将翻译理解为一种跨语言的双重明示-推理过程,是原文作者、译者和读者三者间的语言交际活动。关联性是制约翻译的基本原则,翻译的成功与否在于原交际者的目的和译文读者的要求在认知环境方面是否与原文相似,译者必须正确理解原文作者的意图及熟悉译文读者的认知环境,实现原文读者与译文读者的最佳关联。 《水浒传》作为中国古典四大名著之一,不仅在国内得到广泛传播与接受,也引起了世界范围读者的兴趣。小说中的人物绰号作为其一大特色,一直是研究者关注的焦点之一。本文试以Buck, Jackson,Shapiro和Dent-Young四个英译本为案例,从关联理论的视角来研究《水浒传》中绰号的翻译,探讨为实现原文与译文读者之间的成功交际,译者如何作为原文读者,运用原文语言和文化的知识,从语境中推理出原文作者的交际意图,进而根据对译文语言文化的认知和了解,推断译文读者的认知环境,运用不同的翻译方法实现原文作者与译文读者的最佳关联,达到交际目的。
[Abstract]:The relevance theory established by Sperber and Wilson regards communication as an ostensive-inferential process in which the communicative initiator provides the explicit act. On the other hand, the audience infer the speaker's intention based on this explicit act. Only when both sides of the communication seek the best correlation of the communicative behavior, can they contribute to the smooth and successful communication. Translation is a special communicative activity. Relevance Theory has a strong explanatory power on the nature of translation. Relevance Theory interprets translation as a dual ostensive-inferential process across languages and is the author of the original text. The communicative activity between the translator and the reader. Relevance is the basic principle that restricts translation. The success of translation depends on whether the original communicator's purpose and the reader's requirements are similar to the original text in terms of cognitive environment. The translator must correctly understand the intention of the original author and know the cognitive environment of the target readers so as to realize the best correlation between the original readers and the target readers. As one of the four classical Chinese masterpieces, Water margin has not only been widely disseminated and accepted in China, but also attracted the interest of readers around the world. This paper attempts to study the translation of nicknames from the perspective of relevance theory in order to achieve a successful communication between the original and the target readers, taking four English versions of Buckson-Jacksonian Shapiro and Dent-Young as examples to study the translation of nicknames from the perspective of relevance theory. How to use the knowledge of the source language and culture to infer the communicative intention of the original author from the context, and then infer the cognitive environment of the target reader based on the cognition and understanding of the target language and culture. Different translation methods are used to achieve the best relevance between the original author and the target reader.
