[Abstract]:As the essence and treasure of national language, idiom is an important window to examine national culture. It not only has a distinct national color and strong cultural connotation, but also is often used in daily communication and literary works because of its vitality and strong expressiveness. The Bible, as the holy book of Christianity, the first religion in the West, has a great influence on German culture and German. German idioms from the Bible are widely used in modern German. So this paper chooses the idioms from the Bible as the research object (not all of them, but only some famous idioms that we often use in our daily life), and studies its cultural connotation and modern usage. And the comparison and analysis between these idioms and their Chinese translations. This article is divided into two parts altogether. The theoretical part first discusses the definition of idioms in German and Chinese and the historical development of German idioms; then describes the characteristics and classification of idioms; finally introduces the relevant theories and research methods in the field of comparative study of idioms. At the same time, an important concept derived from translation theory, equivalence theory, is introduced. The practical part is devoted to the concrete analysis of the selected idiom examples, and makes a comparative analysis with the Chinese translation according to the relevant knowledge of equivalence theory. These selected idioms are divided into three categories: partial equivalence, semantic equivalence and zero equivalence. Then each idiom is analyzed in detail, including style, source, semantics and modern usage. At the same time attach some examples used in daily life. Through analysis, it can be concluded that a large number of idioms from the Bible have become an important part of the German language, especially in the daily communication language. With the development of the times, their connotations are richer and more widely used. On the basis of comparison with Chinese translation, it can be seen that although German and Chinese belong to different languages, there are great differences in language foundation and historical culture. There are still some similarities between German idioms and Chinese idioms, especially at the semantic level.
