[Abstract]:With the rise of cognitive linguistics, the role of metaphor began to gain new recognition. Metaphor is widely used to express abstract emotions such as love and anger, and plays an important role in expressing emotion. Love is an emotion shared by people in different countries. People tend to use metaphor to express this abstract emotion. Conceptual metaphors of love in English and Chinese appear in literary works and are reflected in people's daily communication. Metaphor is not only a linguistic phenomenon, but also a cognitive phenomenon. This paper mainly collects the conceptual metaphors of love in English and Chinese literary works and analyzes the conceptual metaphors of love from the perspective of culture. Because many human behaviors and activities themselves are quite similar, conceptual metaphor of love shows great similarity in different languages, and this conceptual metaphorical mode of thinking is universal. At the same time, conceptual metaphor of love has its own characteristics in different languages. Conceptual metaphor of love is closely related to cultural factors such as history, religion and so on. This paper makes a cognitive analysis of the reasons leading to the differences between English and Chinese love metaphors, in order to better understand the similarities and differences of conceptual metaphors in English and Chinese.
