地学翻译过程中翻译策略和翻译单位的TAPs语料研究

【摘要】:传统的译学研究,侧重于产品研究,忽略了过程研究。然而,没有过程研究的翻译学是不可能成为一门独立的学科的。惟有借助于认知心理学的研究方法,方可探究翻译的“黑匣子”之谜。随着认知科学和心理学的发展,有声思维法被用于描述和解释翻译过程中译者的思维活动,促进了翻译过程实验研究的开展。 本研究旨在通过有声思维报告法(TAPs)来描述译者在进行地学类翻译时所使用的翻译策略的模式和翻译单位的大小情况。笔者以地学专业学生为对象进行实验,以地学类文章为翻译文本,以有声思维作为实验方法,对地学翻译过程进行了分析研究。本研究对收集到的有效的来自EPP(English for Professional Purpose)实验班的5名研究对象的TAPs语料按预先设计的体系(Lorscher的翻译策略体系和Gerloff的翻译单位体系)进行编码,以提取包含在受试译者翻译过程中的翻译策略成分和翻译单位。重点研究英译汉、汉译英中翻译单位、翻译策略的运用状况,考察受试者进行不同方向翻译时的异同。通过对有声思维数据的采集、转换、编码和定性、定量分析,探讨了翻译过程的特点以及翻译中存在的主要问题。 TAPs语料的分析和统计结果首先揭示了受试者的翻译过程并非杂乱无章,而是遵循一定的翻译策略模式。语料分析也揭示了受试者运用翻译单位的情况,翻译单位多分布在词、从句和句子层面,受试者关注最多的是从句的翻译,这也体现了地学类文本长句较多的特征。汉译英中以词为翻译单位的比例较英译汉高,说明不同方向的翻译单位分布有差异。整个翻译过程中受试者最为关注的翻译步骤是复读原文。无论是汉译英还是英译汉,复读较多的均为第二语言的文本。 在地学类文章翻译过程中,受试者意识到的主要问题是词汇、从句和句子的翻译问题,而对于语篇层次的问题关注较少。研究结果表明翻译过程分析能够帮助地学文本翻译者认识翻译问题。该研究对于揭示地学翻译内在过程的本质,改善翻译教学方法等具有实践性意义。
[Abstract]:Traditional translation studies, focusing on product studies, ignore process studies. However, translation studies without process studies cannot become an independent discipline. Only by means of cognitive psychology can we explore the mystery of the translation of the "black box". With the development of cognitive science and psychology, the sound thinking method has been used to describe and explain the translator's thinking activities in the translation process, which has promoted the development of the experimental study on the translation process. The purpose of this study is to describe the patterns of translation strategies and the size of translation units used by translators in geoscientific translation by using the audio-thinking report method (TAPs) to describe the translation strategies used by translators in geoscientific translation. The author makes an analysis of the process of geoscience translation by taking geoscience students as the object, taking geoscientific articles as translation texts and thinking with sound as the experimental method. In this study, the effective TAPs data collected from the EPP (English for Professional Purpose) experimental class were coded according to a pre-designed system (Lorscher's translation strategy system and Gerloff's translation unit system). In order to extract the translation strategy components and translation units included in the translator's translation process. This paper focuses on the use of translation units and strategies in English-Chinese and Chinese-English translation, and examines the similarities and differences between the subjects in different translation directions. By collecting, transforming, encoding, qualitative and quantitative analysis of sound thinking data, this paper discusses the characteristics of translation process and the main problems in translation. The analysis and statistical results of the TAPs corpus first reveal that the subjects' translation process is not chaotic, but follows a certain translation strategy pattern. The corpus analysis also reveals the use of translation units, translation units distributed in the word, clause and sentence level, the subjects pay more attention to the translation of clauses, which also reflects the geoscientific text long sentence characteristics. The proportion of translation units in Chinese-English translation is higher than that in English-Chinese translation, which indicates that there are differences in the distribution of translation units in different directions. During the whole process of translation, the subjects pay more attention to the translation step of re-reading the original text. Whether it is Chinese-English translation or English-Chinese translation, more repetition is a second language text. In the process of translation of geoscientific articles, the subjects realize that the main problems are vocabulary, clauses and translation of sentences, but less attention is paid to the problems of discourse level. The results show that the analysis of translation process can help the translators of geoscientific texts to understand the problem of translation. This study is of practical significance in revealing the essence of the intrinsic process of geoscientific translation and improving translation teaching methods.
