功能翻译理论视角下《围城》的幽默翻译探究

【摘要】：自古至今，无论在中国还是西方国家，幽默在文学作品中都受到广泛的重视。幽默不仅给人们带来欢乐，而且在文化传播方面起着很大的作用。为了满足广大读者对于西方文化的渴求，国内幽默翻译作品层出不穷。学术界一直很重视幽默的翻译，但是由于幽默翻译的复杂性，进展非常缓慢。针对翻译界广泛认为的幽默不可译这一观点，功能翻译理论尤其是其核心理论——目的论指出，翻译是一个目的性行为，译者是带着一定的目的去进行翻译活动的，因此，译者的翻译策略、语言风格、表达方法等等都应该根据翻译的目的来制定。功能翻译理论强调译者应挣脱原文文本的束缚，发挥主观能动性。该理论本质上不同于传统的翻译理论，，从而为幽默翻译研究开辟出一条新路。本文以著名作家钱钟书先生的长篇小说《围城》及其迄今为止唯一的英译本作为案例，从功能翻译理论以及译者的翻译目的的角度来分析这部著名小说中大量经典幽默例句的英文翻译，从而考察译者在翻译过程中采取的翻译策略的可取性及译本的质量。案例分析采取定性定量的方法，把《围城》中所有笔者认为幽默的话语分成三种：普通幽默，文化幽默以及语言幽默。对这三种幽默的大量案例进行分析后，笔者发现在多个案例中，由于译者过于屈从于原文或是翻译策略选择不当，导致幽默效果在目的语中没有得到充分的体现甚至完全丧失，未能达成向目的语读者成功展现小说的幽默之处以及钱钟书先生写作特色的目的，因此笔者认为该英译本是不成功的。
[Abstract]:Since ancient times, humor has been widely attached to literary works both in China and in western countries. Humor not only brings joy to people, but also plays a great role in cultural communication. In order to satisfy the readers' thirst for western culture, humorous translation works emerge in endlessly. The academic circle has always attached great importance to humor. But because of the complexity of humor translation, progress is very slow.
In view of the view that translation is widely regarded as the non translatability of humour, functional translation theory is especially its core theory - teleology points out that translation is a purposeful act, and the translator carries out translation activities with a certain purpose. Therefore, the translator's translation strategy, language style, expression method, etc. should all be based on the purpose of translation. The theory of functional translation emphasizes that the translator should break free from the bondage of the text of the original and give full play to the subjective initiative. This theory is different from the traditional translation theory in essence, thus opening a new way for the study of humorous translation.
This paper, taking the famous author of Mr. Qian Zhongshu's novel < Besieged City > and the only English translation so far as a case, analyzes the English translation of a large number of classic humorous examples in this famous novel from the perspective of functional translation theory and the translator's translation purpose, so as to investigate the translation strategies adopted by the translators in the process of translation. The qualitative and quantitative method is adopted in the case analysis. The qualitative and quantitative method is adopted to divide all the humorous utterances in the "Besieged City" into three kinds: ordinary humor, cultural humor and language humor. After analyzing a large number of cases of the three kinds of humor, the author finds that in many cases, the translator is too submissive to the original or the translation strategy. A little improper selection leads to the humorous effect in the target language not fully embodied or even completely lost, and the humour of the novel to the target language readers and the purpose of Mr. Qian Zhongshu's writing characteristics are not achieved. Therefore, the author thinks the English translation is unsuccessful.
