从翻译的政治视角看严复的译作《天演论》

【摘要】： “翻译的政治”是20世纪60年代以来西方后现代语境下出现的一种问题意识。这一命题主要研究在不同文化交流与重构过程中或隐或现的权力关系如何操控和影响翻译实践。传统翻译理论偏重研究语言转换过程中意义的精确传达，而翻译的政治理论则关注影响翻译活动的外部因素，，翻译被置于更为广泛的政治、经济、文化与历史语境之中。它从过程的角度审视翻译现象，并为在社会文化和社会历史语境中研究翻译行为提供了理论框架。 受翻译的政治理论的影响和启发，本文作者在中国近代的特定语境中解读并阐释严复译《天演论》的翻译实践，分析其中“翻译的政治”的体现。研究结果表明《天演论》并不是胡译更不是不负责任的乱译，而是社会、政治、文化等特定语境综合影响制约的产物。正是由于严复心系民族安危，迫切希望通过西学开启民智以达到救亡图存的目的，他认真选择文本、目标读者、译文风格，在翻译赫胥黎的《进化与伦理学》中运用了加、减、改、案、中西对比等翻译策略，积极主动地对原文进行创造性的、操控性的调整，从而使进化论思想得以广泛传播，鼓舞了无数中国人民。 本文期望在一定程度上深化对严复翻译《天演论》的理解和研究，同时也为“翻译的政治”理论提供一则近代中国情境下的例证。
[Abstract]:Politics of Translation is a kind of problem consciousness in the western postmodern context since 1960's. This thesis focuses on how the implicit or present power relations control and influence translation practice in the process of cultural communication and reconstruction. The traditional translation theory focuses on the accurate transmission of meaning in the process of language transformation, while the political theory of translation focuses on the external factors affecting translation activities. Translation is placed in a broader political, economic, cultural and historical context. It examines translation phenomena from the perspective of process and provides a theoretical framework for the study of translation behavior in the context of social culture and social history. Influenced and inspired by the political theory of translation, the author interprets and interprets the translation practice of Yan Fu in the specific context of modern China, and analyzes the embodiment of "the Politics of Translation". The research results show that "Tian Yan" is not Hu's translation is not irresponsible and random translation, but the social, political, cultural and other specific context of the comprehensive influence of the product. It is precisely because of Yan Fu's concern for the safety of the nation that he is eager to open the minds of the people through western learning to achieve the goal of saving the nation from extinction. He carefully selects the text, the target reader, and the translation style, and applies addition and subtraction in the translation of Huxley's Evolution and Ethics. The translation strategies such as reform, case, Chinese and Western contrast and so on, actively adjust the original text creatively and manipulatively, so that the thought of evolution can be widely disseminated and invigorated countless Chinese people. To some extent, this paper hopes to deepen the understanding and study of the translation of Yan Fu, "the Theory of Heaven", and at the same time provide an example of "the Politics of Translation" in the context of modern China.
