【摘要】： 图案的本体研究是指围绕图案本身的诸多特征，寻找其客观规律和根源的研究。成形于古希腊末期的莨苕叶饰漩涡纹样在外观和构成形式上具有极为显著的特点，这些特点使它受到大量运用和推广，其基本图式，作为诸多变体的母体在整个世界纹样史上占据举足轻重的地位。本文试图围绕莨苕叶饰漩涡纹样这一重要的装饰母题，依据图例，追溯这一纹样的起源和成形，考察成形中图案在时间和空间上形成交流的原因和意义，讨论象征意义和起源之间的关系以及象征意义与形式之间的关系，以及阐述这一纹样的成形与演变在审美上的意义，来展开对图案的本体问题的讨论。从中得出以下结论：1，莨苕叶饰漩涡纹样最终起源于埃及的莲花纹样。图式上的延续性是得出这一结论的基础。2，交流过程中，图式在变化中维持其内在既定的秩序。3，图案因其象征意义而生，象征意义则借助图案得到加强。形式特征赋予了图案象征的潜力。4，图案作为审美理想的载体之一，体现着各民族文化的精神内涵。
