[Abstract]:In the field of translation, especially in the field of poetry translation, translatability and untranslatability always exist. Poetry is a special literary form. Therefore, it has always been the focus of debate between translatable and untranslatable. Robert Frost, the British poet, once said that "poetry is something lost in translation." his untranslatable comments triggered off. There was a heated discussion of the problem. We urgently need to define the translatability of poetry in a comprehensive and dialectical way. The author summarizes the problem of translatability from a dialectical point of view. The untranslatable proposition contains two meanings. One is the "untranslatability" at the theoretical level and the other is the "untranslatable factor" at the practical level. Based on the needs of this thesis, the author will try to identify and analyze the factors that limit the translatability of poetry. Rather than simply discussing whether poetry is translatable or not. Clearly defining the meanings of translatability propositions at different levels, The nature and expression of poetry determine the limit of translatability in the process of poetry translation. The main purpose of this thesis is to limit the translatability of poetry. Research and descriptive analysis of these limitations. At the same time, The paper also proposes some feasible ways to reduce the limitation of poetry translation. In order to study poetry translation better, it is necessary to fully understand the characteristics of poetry text. Based on the text typology theory from the perspective of functional translation theory, The author concludes a theoretical framework suitable for the discussion of poetry translation. Poetry is a type of translation text oriented by the source language text, that is, a text type that focuses on form or expressive function. Therefore, in order to achieve the aesthetic effect similar to the original poem, the translator should focus on transmitting the formal elements of the original poem, and look for the analogous form of expression in the target language in order to achieve the aesthetic effect similar to the original poem. Based on this theoretical framework and the classification of Liu Miqing's stylistic symbol system, The author makes a descriptive analysis of the possible limitations in the process of poetry translation and puts forward some feasible methods to reduce the limits of poetry translation. The author holds that there is a limit of translatability in the process of poetry translation. From the perspective of functional translation theory, we can analyze the types and functional characteristics of poetry texts more objectively. The comprehensive and systematic analysis of the factors which influence the translatability of poetry translation and the feasible methods which can reduce the limits of poetry translation will undoubtedly contribute to the improvement of poetry translation quality.
