操纵论视角下《红楼梦》王际真英译本之翻译策略研究

【摘要】：90年代以来,西方翻译研究突破了语言学的藩篱,继而转向对文化途径翻译的研究,即翻译学上的“文化转向”。其中,勒菲费尔在“翻译即改写,翻译即操纵”的观点的基础上,提出了翻译操纵论,即意识形态,诗学观念和赞助系统。该理论改变了以往对翻译现象的规约式研究为翻译作品及现象提供了描述性研究的新渠道。同时,该理论也为探索译者成就译作的过程中受到的潜在与显在的因素提供了理论支柱。在《红楼梦》的翻译论著中,绝大多数都是围绕杨宪益夫妇及霍克斯翁婿的全译本展开的研究,然而《红楼梦》在美国的传播中,王际真译本起到了不可忽视的作用。本文希望通过从操作理论的角度探索王际真翻译《红楼梦》时受到的各种因素的操纵,为《红楼梦》全译本之外的译本研究作一些有益尝试。本文选取二十世纪早期《红楼梦》英译本中的湖人译作之一——王际真译本作为案例,分析王际真译本在特定历史时期,特殊的目的需求,特别的赞助人要求下译成《红楼梦》节译本过程中所受到的不同操纵因素。全文共分五章,第一、二章简述了勒菲费尔的操纵理论,第三章,详细阐述和介绍《红楼梦》、曹雪芹、红学研究以及《红楼梦》英译本,尤其是王际真译本。此章为第四章中分析译本提供了详实的语料。第四章是本研究的重点,也是本论文的创新之处。以王际真两英译本为案例,从译者受到的政治意识形态,文化意识形态,诗学观念,赞助系统,意义协商几个方面,对王际真在翻译过程中受到的各种因素的操纵进行举例分析。第五章得出结论,王际真在节译《红楼梦》的过程中,为了满足英文读者对中国作品中“异域情调”的好奇心,在保留宝黛爱情故事为主线的同时,也保留了大量反映中华民俗的片段；同时,为了与当时的政治,文化意识形态相符合,王际真还采用了独特的名字译法；为了与赞助人的意志相吻合,还采用了注释、文内解释等多种翻译策略。最终呈现给世人一部省略了大部分诗、词、曲、赋,基本完全改译原著的《红楼梦》节译本。这些因素成为王际真节译《红楼梦》过程中有意识或是无意识受到的操纵。也由此可见,勒菲费尔提出的操纵三因素在翻译活动中具有普遍意义,值得学者探索和挖掘。
[Abstract]:Since the 1990s, Western translation studies have broken through linguistic barriers and turned to the study of cultural approaches to translation, that is, the "cultural turn" in translatology, in which Le Feifel wrote "Translation is rewriting". On the basis of the theory that translation is manipulation, this paper puts forward the theory of translation manipulation, that is, ideology. The concept of poetics and the sponsorship system. This theory has changed the conventional study of translation phenomena in the past and provided a new channel for the descriptive study of translation works and phenomena. The theory also provides a theoretical support for exploring the underlying and explicit factors in the process of translator's achievement in translation. In the translation works of A Dream of Red Mansions, most of them are about the complete translation of the couple Yang Xianyi and his son-in-law, but in the spread of the Dream of Red Mansions in the United States, Wang Jizhen's translation has played an important role. This paper hopes to explore the manipulation of various factors in Wang Jizhen's translation of A Dream of Red Mansions from the perspective of operational theory. Some useful attempts are made for the study of the full translation of A Dream of Red Mansions. This paper takes Wang Jizhen, one of the Lakers' translations in the early 20th century, as a case study, to analyze the special purpose needs of Wang Jizhen's translation in a specific historical period. At the request of the special patron, there are different manipulation factors in the translation of A Dream of Red Mansions. The thesis is divided into five chapters: chapter one and Chapter two briefly describe Lefefel's manipulation theory. This chapter gives a detailed description of A Dream of Red Mansions, Cao Xueqin, Red Studies and English versions of A Dream of Red Mansions, especially Wang Jizhen's version. This chapter provides detailed corpus for the analysis of the fourth chapter. Chapter four is the focus of this study. It is also the innovation of this thesis. Taking Wang Jizhen's two English versions as an example, from the aspects of political ideology, cultural ideology, poetic concept, sponsorship system, meaning negotiation, the translator receives several aspects, such as the political ideology, the cultural ideology, the poetics concept, the sponsorship system and the meaning negotiation. An example is given to illustrate Wang Jizhen's manipulation of various factors in the process of translation. Chapter five draws the conclusion that in the process of translating A Dream of Red Mansions, Wang Jizhen, in order to satisfy the curiosity of English readers about "exotic sentiment" in Chinese works, keeps Baodai's love story as the main line. At the same time, in order to conform to the political and cultural ideology of the time, Wang Jizhen also adopted a unique translation of the name; in order to match the will of the patron, he also adopted annotations. There are many translation strategies, such as the explanation in the text. In the end, it presents to the world that most of the poems, words, songs, and Fu have been omitted. Basically complete translation of the original version of A Dream of Red Mansions. These factors have been manipulated consciously or unconsciously in the process of Wang Jizhen's translation of A Dream of Red Mansions. The three factors of manipulation proposed by Lefeifer are of universal significance in translation activities and are worth exploring and excavating.
