[Abstract]:From the perspective of hermeneutics, this paper attempts to explore the exertion of the translator's subjectivity in literary translation. The translator's subjectivity is a kind of subjective initiative which the translator exerts in the dynamic process of translation. In the process of translation, the translator's subjectivity is mainly embodied in the following aspects: choosing the source text, deciding the translation strategy, understanding the initiative, expressing the initiative and seeking a balance with the original. Based on hermeneutics, the present study studies the role of the translator in translation activities and how the translator maintains the objectivity and neutrality of individual subjectivity in the process of translation so as to serve translation practice to the maximum extent. A broad definition of hermeneutics can be expressed as "a theory or philosophy of meaning understanding and interpretation." Hermeneutics is mainly concerned with translation studies: understanding is historical, the understanding of text should be based on history, the meaning of text is open, the existence of multiple interpretations is allowed, so the retranslation of literary works is necessary. Both the reader and the text have their own horizons. Understanding should merge the two horizons to achieve the "horizon fusion", and the translator should try to approach the original author's initial horizon so as to understand the author's intention. Using hermeneutics theory, George Steiner puts forward four translation steps based on hermeneutical analysis: trust, intrusion, incorporation and compensation. The so-called "trust" means that the translator fully understands the value of the original text and believes that the original text is meaningful, while in understanding the meaning of the original text, the translator's subjective factors inevitably "intrude" into the original text. Therefore, the purpose of "invasion" is to "absorb", that is, to transplant the achievements made in the previous step into the translation, and there are also deficiencies in the process of "absorption", so "compensation" is very necessary. In order to make up for the imbalance in the process of translation. This study takes Dickens' novel Orphan of Whew City and its Chinese translation as an example to compare and analyze it with Steiner's four translation steps and hermeneutics theory. Based on the analysis of the translations and the original works of Rong Rude and he Wenan in different periods, the present study concludes the following three findings: 1. Translation under hermeneutics should be understood as the process of the translator's initiative in interpreting the original text and the translator's subjectivity.
