《红楼梦》文化的不可译性与翻译补偿策略研究

【摘要】：本次研究采用了定性分析和定量分析两种方式探索了《红楼梦》霍克斯译本的文化的不可译性及翻译补偿策略。初步研究表明,由于源语与目的语之间存在着文化差异,为了能使目的语读者更好地理解源语的文化内涵,目的语中译成的文化内容,并非完全逐字照翻源语表层意思直译,增益和其他翻译补偿形式也被运用。通过上述定性与定量相结合的研究方法,本文作者找出目的语与源语之间的文化的空白,从而确定文化的相对不可译性并找到补偿翻译过程中文化缺失的各种方法。研究表明,霍克斯的《红楼梦》英译本有些翻译来自字对字的直译,有些来自其他形式,甚至还有些来自作者的直接创作。考虑到译文风格的统一性,本文以霍克斯《红楼梦》英译本中的前80章为研究对象,通过收集资料和问卷调查形式,试图用更客观的方法证明这种现象是否普遍存在,进而探索霍克斯在翻译《红楼梦》中的文化内容时所采用的翻译补偿策略。该研究主要研究结果如下： 1.由于东西方文化的差异,文化的翻译具有相对不可译的特点。 2.霍译本中的文化翻译有些是直译,有些根据源语意义翻译的基础上加了注释,有些翻译是对源语意义翻译后的一种补充,还有一些翻译来自作者的直接创作。 3.本文作者认为,通过翻译补偿策略的使用,可以弥补文化翻译中可能引发目的语读者误解,不解之处,并填补目的语读者的文化背景空缺。
[Abstract]:In this study, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis are used to explore the cultural untranslatability and translation compensation strategies of the Hawks version of A Dream of Red Mansions. The preliminary study shows that due to the cultural differences between the source language and the target language, in order to make the target language readers better understand the cultural connotation of the source language, the cultural content translated in the target language is not completely literal translation of the surface meaning of the source language. Gain and other forms of translation compensation are also used. Through the above qualitative and quantitative research methods, the author finds out the cultural gap between the target language and the source language, thus determining the relative untranslatability of the culture and finding various ways to compensate for the cultural deficiency in the translation process. The study shows that some translation of Hawkes' Dream of Red Mansions comes from literal translation of word pairs, some from other forms, and some from the author's direct works. Considering the unity of the translation style, this paper takes the first 80 chapters of Hawkes' English version of A Dream of Red Mansions as the research object, and attempts to prove whether this phenomenon is common or not by collecting data and questionnaire surveys. Then it explores the translation compensation strategies adopted by Hawks in translating the cultural content in A Dream of Red Mansions. The main results of this study are as follows: 1. Due to the cultural differences between the East and the West, the translation of culture is relatively untranslatable. Some of the cultural translations in Huo's translation are literal, some are annotated on the basis of the translation of the source language meaning, some are complementary to the translation of the source language meaning, and some translation comes from the author's direct creation. The author believes that the use of translation compensation strategies can make up for the misunderstanding and confusion of the target language readers in cultural translation and fill the cultural background gaps of the target language readers.
