中美名校校训的文化差异性研究

【摘要】：大学校训，是大学校园文化背景和传统的表现。校训体现的是一种德行和精神，如同一所学校的灵魂，它能反映学校的办学理念和价值取向，体现大学的文化和精神底蕴。校训的作用就是为了让广大师生深刻领悟这些精神，并把这些精神融入到每个师生的工作和学习中，化作他们自己的精气神。所以深刻领悟校训并实践之才是最终目的，而践行的前提就是深刻领悟校训的真谛。通过对校训的研究，可以了解大学文化的核心和灵魂。本文首先分析了校训的特点，加深对校训的了解。进而通过USNEWS, QS, THE和ARWU四大权威机构排名综合分析选择出了中国排名前15的大学和美国排名前12的大学并对这些大学校训进行异同分析。从校训的内容，功能，展现方式和思想根源等方面发现了中美校训的相同点。在差异性分析中，分别从校训的形式和内容两方面进行分析。在形式方面，分别从校训的字面特征，校训主语是人是物以及校训的稳定性三方面进行分析。在校训的文化内容方面，分析这些中美名牌大学校训是否反映霍夫斯泰德的文化价值取向理论的五个文化维度。结果显示中美校训可以反映权力距离，不确定性规避，个人主义和集体主义这三个维度，没有反映男性气质和女性气质倾向，中美校训并不完全反映长短期取向的所有特点。这证明校训反映文化，在可以反映出的文化内容中基本符合霍夫斯泰德的文化价值取向。通过这些分析，得出了中国大学校训的不足之处，希望中国大学校训能够增强稳定性，不轻易变动，并且希望通过本文的分析可以引起更多人对大学校训的重视，促进中美间的跨文化交流。
[Abstract]:The university motto is the expression of the cultural background and tradition of the university campus. The motto embodies a kind of morality and spirit, like the soul of a school, it can reflect the idea and value orientation of the school, and reflect the culture and spirit of the university. The role of the school motto is to let the teachers and students deeply understand these spirits and integrate them into the work and study of each teacher and students to become their own spirit. Therefore, the ultimate goal is to deeply understand and practice the school motto, and the premise of practice is to deeply understand the true meaning of the school motto. Through the study of school motto, we can understand the core and soul of university culture. This paper first analyzes the characteristics of the school motto, deepening the understanding of the school motto. Through the comprehensive analysis of USNEWS, QS, THE and ARWU, the authors select the top 15 universities in China and the top 12 universities in the United States, and analyze the similarities and differences of these university motto. The similarities between Chinese and American school motto are found from the contents, functions, ways of expression and ideological roots of the school motto. In the difference analysis, the form and content of the school motto are analyzed. In the aspect of form, this paper analyzes the literal characteristics of school motto, the subject of school motto is that man is material and the stability of school motto. In terms of the cultural content of the motto, this paper analyzes whether the motto of these famous Chinese and American universities reflects the five cultural dimensions of Hofstede's theory of cultural value orientation. The results show that the Chinese and American school motto can reflect the three dimensions of power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism and collectivism, and does not reflect the masculinity and femininity tendency, and the Chinese and American school motto does not completely reflect all the characteristics of the long-term and short-term orientation. This proves that the school motto reflects culture and basically accords with Hofstede's cultural value orientation in the cultural content that can be reflected. Through these analyses, we get the deficiencies of the Chinese university motto, hope that the Chinese university motto can enhance stability and not change easily, and hope that through the analysis of this article, more people can pay more attention to the university motto. To promote cross-cultural exchanges between China and the United States.
