英汉新闻社论情态对比研究

【摘要】:社论是新闻评论的一种,是代表报社等媒介对当前国内外重大事件或问题发表的评论,其目的是为了影响公众对于事件或问题的理解和看法。普利策曾把社论喻为“报纸的心脏”。社论的人际功能对于报纸来说举足轻重。社论中的情态资源十分丰富。但是,目前对情态人际意义的研究中,社论这种体裁鲜有涉及。在对比语言学的领域里,英汉情态的对比研究不仅数量少,而且往往是以英语为中心对英文语篇和英文版本的汉语语篇进行比较。此外,研究往往缺乏恰当的对比维度,极少有研究在特定体裁范围内对比英汉的情态表达,而且在对比方法上也欠科学。 本文在社论这一体裁的范围内对英汉情态表达进行了对比分析。在综合了帕尔默、铁鸿业、韩礼德、珀金斯和彭宣维等人理论的基础上,,形成了一套适用于进行英汉情态对比的理论框架,以定量统计(包括标准化频数和t检验)和定性分析相结合的方式,分析了《纽约时报》和《人民日报》官方网站上2012年英汉各30篇社论的情态资源(主要包括情态动词和情态副词),并从语言本身、社会和文化等方面探讨了二者的差异性。 研究结果表明:(1)英语和汉语在社论中的情态都可以分成三类,即认知、道义和能动情态。在汉语社论中,情态主要表现为情态动词和情态副词;而英语社论则在运用以上两种情态表达之外,还运用了类情态动词、情态实意动词和形容词性表达。(2)在社论中,英汉情态的差异主要体现在以下五个方面:情态表达总频数(每千字)、对情态类型的偏好、情态否定形式的比例、情态副词的频数(每千字)和情态动词的量值。而二者的共同点则在于道义情态和能动情态的频数(每千字)值接近以及高频动词方面。(3)这些差异主要是由语言资源的不平衡、文化取向的差异和媒体社会环境的不同造成的。
[Abstract]:Editorial is a kind of news commentary, which is made on behalf of the newspaper and other media on the important events or problems at home and abroad. The purpose of editorial is to influence the public's understanding and opinion of events or problems. Pulitzer once called the editorial the heart of the newspaper. The interpersonal function of editorials plays an important role in newspapers. The editorial is rich in modal resources. However, editorials are rarely involved in the study of modal interpersonal meaning. In the field of contrastive linguistics, the contrastive study of English and Chinese modality is not only a small number, but also a comparison between English text and English version of Chinese text. In addition, there is often a lack of appropriate contrastive dimensions, and few studies contrast the modal expressions between English and Chinese in a specific genre, and the contrastive approach is also unscientific. This paper makes a contrastive analysis of modal expressions in English and Chinese within the genre of editorials. On the basis of synthesizing the theories of Palmer, tie Hongye, Halliday, Perkins and Peng Xuanwei, a set of theoretical framework suitable for the comparison between English and Chinese modality is formed. In a way that combines quantitative statistics (including standardized frequency and t-test) with qualitative analysis, This paper analyzes the modal resources (including modal verbs and modal adverbs) of 30 editorials in English and Chinese in 2012 on the official websites of New York Times and People's Daily, and probes into their differences in terms of language itself, society and culture. The results show that the modality of English and Chinese in editorials can be divided into three categories, namely cognitive, moral and active modality. In Chinese editorials, modality is mainly expressed as modal verbs and modal adverbs, while in English editorials, in addition to the above two kinds of modal expressions, they also use generic modal verbs, modal real meaning verbs and adjective expressions. The differences of modality in English and Chinese are mainly reflected in the following five aspects: the total frequency of modality expression (per thousand words), the preference for modality type, the proportion of modality negative form, the frequency of modality adverb (per thousand words) and the quantity of modal verb. What they have in common is the similarity of the frequency (per thousand words) between the moral modality and the active modality and the high frequency verb. These differences are mainly caused by the imbalance of language resources, the difference of cultural orientation and the difference of media social environment.
