认知语用视角下中美商业新闻话语标记语的对比研究

【摘要】:基于语料库的本族语和非本族语者的书面语中话语标记语的对比研究逐步成为话语标记语研究的热点。本文拟探讨中美英语商业新闻中话语标记语的使用频率及用法的异同,具体回答以下研究问题:(1)中美英语商业新闻中话语标记语的使用频率是否存在差异?各类型话语标记语的使用是否一致?(2)中美英语商业新闻中个别话语标记语体现了怎样的认知语用功能以及是如何体现?二者之间是否存在差异?本研究分别选取《新闻周刊》、《华盛顿邮报》和《北京周报》、《中国日报》的英语商业新闻为语料,自建了美国英语商业新闻语料库(ABNC)和中国英语商业新闻语料库(CBNC),采用语料库方法从认知语用的视角出发,以其中的话语标记语为研究对象,基于陈新仁(2002)话语标记语的分类标准并借鉴Blakemore(1992)及Fraser(1999)的分类,通过两个语料库的对比分析,得出以下结论:(1)总体来看,中美英语商业新闻中话语标记语的使用频率没有显著差异,在话语标记语类型的选择上也呈现相同顺序,第一类话语标记语即强化已存在假设的话语标记语在两个语料库中的频率均占首位,第二类即与已存在假定发生冲突的话语标记语与第三类即与已知假定组合形成语境暗含的话语标记语分别位列第二、三位。且中美英语商业新闻作者均偏爱于添加、转折、推论类话语标记语。(2)各类型话语标记语的使用均在两个语料库中呈现显著差异,第一类与第三类话语标记语均在中国英语商业新闻中表现为过多使用而第二类话语标记语在美国商业新闻中过多使用。(3)大部分单个话语标记语的使用频率在两个语料库中均表现出显著差异。基于以上的数据分析,本文进而基于关联理论对in addition,however以及therefore这三个在三类话语标记语中较具代表性的话语标记语分别进行了认知语用分析,以进一步了解话语标记语对话语理解的作用;此外对这三个话语标记语的具体分析也发现其语用功能或位置分布存在差异,且therefore出现误用。基于以上研究,本文认为作为高级学习者的中国商业英语新闻作者已经掌握了“话语能力”,使得他们能够在英语写作中使用英语篇章构成中的规则,因而在话语标记语的总体使用上与本族语者没有显著差异。但是,在话语标记语使用的多样性、准确性及恰当性方面仍与美国本族语者有差距。本文希望通过这样的对比分析能增强人们对话语标记语的认识,从而提高商业英语新闻的读写水平,并为商业英语新闻读写教学及商务英语专业人才的培养提供一些启示。
[Abstract]:Corpus-based contrastive study of discourse markers in native and non-native written languages has gradually become a hot topic. This paper intends to explore the similarities and differences in the frequency and usage of discourse markers in business news between China and the United States, and to answer the following research question: 1) are there any differences in the frequency of use of discourse markers in Chinese and American business news? Is the use of different types of discourse markers consistent? (2) what cognitive and pragmatic functions and how do individual discourse markers embody in Chinese and American business news? Is there a difference between the two? In this study, the English business news of Newsweek, Washington Post, Beijing Weekly and China Daily were selected as language materials. The American English Business News Corpus (ABNC) and the Chinese English Business News Corpus (CBNCU) were built. The corpus method was used to study the discourse markers from the perspective of cognitive pragmatics. On the basis of the classification criteria of Chen Xinreng (2002) and drawing lessons from the classification of Blakemoreo 1992) and Fraser1999), it is concluded that there is no significant difference in the frequency of use of discourse markers in English business news between China and the United States, as a whole, through the comparative analysis of the two corpora, and the following conclusions: 1) in general, there is no significant difference in the frequency of use of discourse markers in English business news between China and the United States. The first type of discourse markers, that is, the enhancement of the existing hypothetical discourse markers, occupies the first place in the two corpora. The second category is the discourse markers which conflict with the existing hypotheses and the third category is the discourse markers which form context implication with the known hypotheses respectively in the second and third place. Moreover, both Chinese and American business news writers prefer to add, turn, and corollary type discourse markers. (2) there are significant differences in the use of each type of discourse markers in the two corpora. The first category and the third category of discourse markers are overused in Chinese English business news, while the second type of discourse markers are overused in American business news.) most of the single discourse markers are used frequently in two ways There are significant differences in the corpus. Based on the above data analysis, this paper makes a cognitive-pragmatic analysis of the three representative discourse markers in addition to however and therefore in three types of discourse markers based on relevance theory. In order to further understand the role of discourse markers in discourse comprehension, the specific analysis of the three discourse markers also shows that there are differences in their pragmatic functions or location distribution, and the therefore is misused. Based on the above studies, this paper argues that Chinese business English news writers, as advanced learners, have mastered "discourse competence" so that they can use the rules of English text formation in their English writing. Therefore, there is no significant difference between the overall use of discourse markers and native speakers. However, the diversity, accuracy and appropriateness of discourse markers are still different from those of American native speakers. This paper hopes that this comparative analysis can enhance the understanding of discourse markers, improve the reading and writing level of business English news, and provide some enlightenment for the teaching of business English news reading and writing and the cultivation of business English professionals.
