英汉并列结构的对比分析:沃尔夫模式

【摘要】:由于跨文化交流近年来日益频繁,关于语言与文化的研究吸引了越来越多的学者特别是对比语言学家的关注。对比语言研究也开始重视语言的语境与文化,而不只是表层的语言现象。本文采用宏观的方法研究英汉并列结构的异同,旨在揭示中国人与英语民族间思维方式的差异。 在本杰明·李·沃尔夫研究外国语特别是美洲印第安语得出的对比研究理论和相对论思想的指导下,本研究对英汉并列结构进行了对比分析。文章的语料是从莫言的中篇小说《师傅越来越幽默》及由葛浩文翻译的英文版本中采集的并列结构。本文从句法和语义两个层面对英汉并列结构进行比较,指出其相同点与不同点。英汉并列结构的基本句法功能和结构以及语义关系都大致相同,但有一些细微的却很重要的差异。在句法分析中,我们发现英汉并列结构最重要的差异是后者是隐性的,而前者是显性的,在英语中通常使用并列连词或特殊的标点符号来连接并列成分。这反映出汉语是意合的,而英语是形合的。在语义分析中,我们发现汉语并列结构表达语义关系的方式要比英语丰富得多,这展示出汉语的柔性和英语的刚性。这两个层面的研究不仅反映了英语与汉语的语言特征,还揭示了中国人和英语民族不同的思维方式或文化差异。中国人注重感性思维,其思维主要受语境和隐藏背景知识的控制,,而英语民族则注重逻辑思维和形式表达。 本研究的重要性可归结为以下三个方面:一.它帮助大家更透彻地理解英汉并列结构的特点,这无疑对语言教学很有帮助;二.本研究的成果对翻译实践有很好的指导作用;三.本人希望此研究能吸引更多的学者来参与语言和文化的研究,从而为跨文化交际作出应有的贡献。
[Abstract]:Due to the increasing frequency of cross-cultural communication in recent years, the study of language and culture has attracted more and more scholars, especially contrastive linguists. Contrastive language studies have also begun to attach importance to language context and culture, not only surface linguistic phenomena. This paper studies the similarities and differences between English and Chinese parallel structures through a macro approach, with a view to revealing the differences in the way of thinking between Chinese and English-speaking peoples. Under the guidance of the contrastive study theory and relativistic theory derived from Benjamin Lee's study of foreign languages, especially Amerindian, this study makes a contrastive analysis of English and Chinese parallel structures. The corpus of the article is a parallel structure collected from Mo Yan's novella Shifu getting more and more humorous and the English version translated by Gehor. This paper compares English and Chinese parallel structures from syntactic and semantic aspects and points out their similarities and differences. The syntactic functions, structures and semantic relations of English and Chinese parallel structures are similar, but there are some subtle but important differences. In syntactic analysis, we find that the most important difference between English and Chinese parallel structures is that the latter is implicit and the former is explicit. In English, parallel conjunctions or special punctuation symbols are usually used to join parallel elements. This reflects that Chinese is parataxis and English is hypotaxis. In semantic analysis, we find that Chinese paratactic structures express semantic relations in a much richer way than in English, which shows the flexibility of Chinese and the rigidity of English. The study of these two levels not only reflects the linguistic characteristics of English and Chinese, but also reveals the different ways of thinking or cultural differences between Chinese and English-speaking peoples. The Chinese focus on perceptual thinking, which is mainly controlled by context and hidden background knowledge, while the English nation pays attention to logical thinking and formal expression. The importance of this study can be summed up in the following three aspects: 1. It helps us understand the characteristics of English-Chinese parallel structures more thoroughly, which is undoubtedly very helpful to language teaching. The results of this study have a good guiding effect on translation practice. I hope that this study can attract more scholars to participate in the study of language and culture, so as to make due contributions to cross-cultural communication.
