【摘要】：裨治文编著的A Chinese Chrestomathy in the Canton Dialect(《广东方言撮要》),是美国传教士出版的第一部汉(粤音)—英双语教材,其中九篇与中国古代科学技术相关,有别于其他传教士所编著的字典或汉语学习书籍,颇具特色与文献价值。文章概述了与数学相关篇章的结构,并分析其中的内容来源,指出内容主要引自《三字经训诂》《增删算法统宗》《方田通法补例》《数理精蕴》本之《几何原本》《圜天图说》等,以及部分自编题目;通过英文翻译和注释的分析,揭示出翻译错误缘由,及其对中国数学的认识,中西度量衡的比较,以及一些与当时贸易有关的议题。
[Abstract]:A Chinese Chrestomathy in the Canton Dialect(, an introduction to Guangdong dialect, is the first Chinese-English bilingual textbook published by American missionaries, nine of which are related to ancient Chinese science and technology. Different from the dictionaries or Chinese learning books compiled by other missionaries, they are characteristic and valuable. This paper summarizes the structure of the chapters related to mathematics, and analyzes the source of the contents. It is pointed out that the contents are mainly quoted from the "three characters exegesis" > "add and delete the algorithm Tongzong" > "Fangtian Tongmeng" > "Mathematical essence", "Geometry original" > "Waitian Tutu Theory", and so on. Through the analysis of English translation and annotations, this paper reveals the causes of translation errors, their understanding of Chinese mathematics, the comparison between Chinese and Western weights and measures, and some issues related to trade at that time.
