《英国病人》的空间解读

【摘要】：迈克尔·翁达杰生于斯里兰卡,受教于英国,定居于在加拿大,是当代文坛久负盛名的作家和诗人。他的代表作《英国病人》于1992年荣获了英语小说最高奖——布克奖,由此改编的电影《英国病人》在1997年也获得了奥斯卡最佳影片奖。文学作品具有时间和空间两个维度。自20世纪以来,叙事学发生了自时间维度向空间维度的转向,小说中的空间问题受到越来越广泛的关注。小说《英国病人》的主要特点之一是融战争,爱情,民族和身份为一体的主题呈现和精湛的叙事技巧,不少学者从这些角度切入来分析这部作品,却很少从有学者从空间的角度来研究这部作品。本论文将从空间的内容和形式来解读小说的空间建构。本论文从内容上运用列斐伏尔的空间理论解读小说的空间建构,包括物质空间,心理空间和社会空间。小说的物质空间:圣吉诺拉莫别墅,北非沙漠和伦敦,不仅是事件发生地,作者更是利用这三个物质空间的来回转换来推进小说的叙事进程。“北非沙漠”和“伦敦”作为逝去时间的标志物存在,分别是主人公艾尔麦西和基普记忆的凝聚地,象征着过去,而“圣吉诺拉莫别墅”象征着现在。“北非沙漠”“伦敦”这两个空间不是静止的空间,它们背后隐藏着帝国主义的政治企图。其次从主人公艾尔麦西和基普的心理空间入手,分析了战争和民族主义给他们带来的创伤,由此引发的心理变化和外在表现。最后,社会空间从物质空间和心理空间的融合入手,指出小说的主人公在物质空间受到压迫引起心理空间的变化,而后在社会空间通过建立跨种族的友谊和爱情关系来治愈创伤,这对于构建和谐平等的社会也具有重要的意义。本论文从形式上运用弗兰克的空间形式理论解读小说的空间建构。翁达杰运用多视角,并置和重复叙事的手法实现了小说的空间性,使小说呈现出立体的画面。本文从内容上和形式上解读《英国病人》的空间建构,不仅为读者提供了一个新的角度来理解这部作品,挖掘出隐藏在空间背后的历史政治内涵。更有助于进一步理解翁达杰的小说和主题之间的密切关系。
[Abstract]:Born in Sri Lanka, educated in England and settled in Canada, Michael Ondaget is a famous contemporary writer and poet. His masterpiece, the British patient, won the highest prize in English fiction, Booker, in 1992, and the adaptation of the film, the British patient, won an Oscar for Best Picture in 1997. Literary works have two dimensions: time and space. Since the 20th century, narratology has changed from time dimension to space dimension. One of the main features of the novel "the sick in England" is the integration of the themes of war, love, nationality and identity, as well as exquisite narrative techniques. Many scholars analyze the novel from these angles. However, few scholars from the perspective of space to study this work. This thesis will interpret the space construction of the novel from the content and form of space. This thesis interprets the space construction of the novel from the content of Lefefort's space theory, including material space, psychological space and social space. The material space of the novel: San Guinolamo Villa, the North African Desert and London are not only the places where the events took place, but also the conversion of these three material spaces to promote the narrative process of the novel. The North African Desert and London, as a symbol of the lost time, symbolize the past and the present, respectively, in the memory of Elmassie and Kip. The two spaces of North Africa Desert and London are not static spaces. Behind them are imperialist political intentions. Secondly, starting from the psychological space of the protagonists Elmassie and Kip, this paper analyzes the trauma caused by war and nationalism, and the psychological changes and external performance caused by it. Finally, starting with the fusion of material space and psychological space, the social space points out that the protagonist in the novel is oppressed in the material space, which leads to the change of psychological space. Then in the social space through the establishment of inter-racial friendship and love relations to heal wounds, which is also of great significance to the construction of a harmonious and equal society. This thesis uses Frank's space form theory to interpret the space construction of the novel. Weng Daget realized the space of the novel by using multi-angle, juxtaposition and repeated narration, which made the novel present three-dimensional picture. This paper interprets the space construction of the British patient in terms of content and form, which not only provides a new angle for readers to understand this work, but also excavates the historical and political connotation hidden behind the space. It also helps to further understand the close relationship between Ondaget's novels and themes.
