论《杰克·迈格斯》中理想男性气质的重塑

彼得·凯里是当今国际文坛首屈一指的澳大利亚民族作家,其发表于1997年的小说《杰克·迈格斯》荣获1998年的迈尔斯·弗兰克林奖与英联邦作家奖。这部作品以流放犯杰克·迈格斯返回伦敦寻找养子为主线,叙述了迈格斯在帝国遭遇了种种非难与身心折磨之后逃回澳大利亚的故事。本论文旨在借助康奈尔对多元男性气质的分类及其特点分析小说《杰克·迈格斯》中多个男性人物各自所代表的男性气质类型,通过质疑维多利亚中产阶级支配性男性气质,重塑理想男性气质,从而验证男性气质是“社会建构”、“制造”以及“再制造”的结果。运用该理论,本论文首先分析了在当时的维多利亚社会背景下多元男性气质的具体表现,然后再结合文本,分析该小说中多个男性人物各自所代表的男性气质类型及其特点;其次,本论文通过揭露隐藏在维多利亚中产阶级绅士支配性男性气质背后的危机与焦虑而对中产阶级绅士所塑造的支配性男性气质提出质疑;并通过分析他们在道德、经济、家庭等方面的具体表现而详细论述了他们支配性男性气质的幻灭;最后,本论文从理想男性形象的塑造以及与他人和谐关系的建立方面详细分析了杰克·迈格斯的理想男性气质的重塑。通过分析文本中男性气质的表现、幻灭与重塑,...
