贝克特小说中的时间难题

萨缪尔·贝克特（1906-1989）靠一部荒诞剧声名鹊起,人们对他的印象也首先是一名剧作家。不过在二十来岁开始写作时他选择的体裁却是小说。1969年贝克特获诺贝尔文学奖,也是因为小说与戏剧创作上对文学界双重的贡献。他的大多数小说在《等待戈多》之前或同时期完成。从二十世纪三十年代一直到五十年代,贝克特专注于小说创作,他把特有的爱尔兰背景、自己在求学过程中的学术积累、以及战后零落的欧洲现状融入自己的小说,并用越来越娴熟的叙事笔调来展现。本文集中探讨贝克特五部小说中的时间观念,首先分析了贝克特在《论普鲁斯特》（Proust）中关于时间的思考,总结出他的两个时间难题,即人无法抓住真正的时间,也无法用语言将真正的时间表达出来。接着论文紧扣贝克特小说的时间主题,集中探讨他的五本小说,分别是《墨菲》（Murphy,1935）、《瓦特》（Watt, 1945）,《莫洛伊》（Molloy,1951）、《马龙之死》（Malone Dies,1951）和《无可名状》（The Unnamable,1953）,将每部小说的时间主题安排都看作是贝克特尝试对那两个时间困境的解答,同时这个解答过程也决定了贝克特小说创...
